Iposter_1984_lrg have a sudden craving, a desperate need, for dystopia.  Real, classic, no-stupid-love-triangles dystopia.  For the first time since I was a freshman in high school, I’ve picked up George Orwell’s classic 1984.

What Is The Name of Your Current Read?

1984 by George Orwell.

Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your eBook and share a couple of sentences.

“Who controls the past,” ran the party slogan, “controls the future: Who controls the present controls the past.” And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory. “Reality control,” they called it; in Newspeak, “doublethink.”

Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not

I think the point of dystopias is to make you not want to live in that world. I mean, look at the Hunger Games for example. The adrenaline rush part of it might seem cool, but think about all the misery those people are in. The starvation. The fact that their children are sacrificed off for entertainment. If you really think about it, you don’t want to live there. 1984 is the same.

Another thing I really enjoy about dystopias is the fact that they make you look at your own world and consider, are we heading in that direction? Will I be living in that world? Again, I don’t want to live there. But there is always that cautious fear in the back of my mind….

Well, that’s all for today! What are you reading?
