What do you do when your knight in shining armor lives, literally, in a different world? Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives among the romantic hills with their archaeologist parents. Stuck among the rubble of medieval castles in rural Tuscany on yet another hot, dusty archaeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds … until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces. Suddenly Gabi’s summer in Italy is much, much more interesting.

This is a DNF (Did Not Finish) review.

As such, it will not be graded traditionally and not have a star rating.  I’m just going to share my thoughts on the first couple hours of the book and let you know why I decided to put it down.

Oops, Waterfall, My Bad

Oh boy.  Mes amis, LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES!  If You-From-2011 has put a book on the TBR, make sure You-From-2017 reviews the book description before willy-nilly sauntering off to borrow the book and then flailing madly.

DON’T GET ME WRONG.

This book is probably fine.  FOR ITS INTENDED AUDIENCE.  Which is not me.

Intended audience:

  • People who are not medieval history majors.
  • People who just want sexy flirty magic and not SCIENCE!
  • People who don’t mind clambering over archaeological ruins (!!!).
  • People who like sappy love books.
  • People who like love at first sight.
  • Not me.
  • DEFINITELY not me.

If you want a light fluffy read with the illusion of history and hunky knights and swooning, etc., YOU WILL PROBABLY LIKE THIS BOOK.

THE GOOD NEWS

NOW I AM DOUBLE CHECKING BOOKS ON MY TBR BECAUSE WHAT WAS I THINKING.

All my love to people who like romance.  Once of my best friends is a trashy romance junkie.  I’m.  Just.  Not.

Speak to me, my lovelies!

When was the last time you pulled a book off your TBR without double-checking to make sure you were still interested?  Did you finish reading it?  Was it also filled with historical inaccuracies?  TELL ME YOUR SORROWS!
