Happy Saturday everybody!
Whelp, I walked right into this one. I really thought that the The Hunger Games was going to end up winning that poll, but Wild Magic won by a landslide! It’s been a few years since I read this one, and it’s not a series with a lot of available merchandise (as in… I didn’t find any) so I had to get really creative with this box! I hope you folks feel like I did the book justice.
Wild Magic Box
An Animal-Magic Inspired Gift Box for Book Lovers.
Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce
Young Daine’s knack with horses gets her a job helping the royal horsemistress drive a herd of ponies to Tortall. Soon it becomes clear that Daine’s talent, as much as she struggles to hide it, is downright magical. Horses and other animals not only obey, but listen to her words. Daine, though, will have to learn to trust humans before she can come to terms with her powers, her past, and herself.
This book was the one that introduced me to Tamora Pierce’s work, and largely into the fantasy genre. In a lot of ways, this book was the beginning of something that helped formulate the person I am today. I’m very attached to this series, even though Wild Magic is definitely a children’s book and may feel a little simple to adult readers… I really recommend these books.
This book is available on Book Depository and they ship for free worldwide!
Wooden Resin Ring
Daine spends a lot of time outdoors, and the beginning of the book includes a pony migration. When I’ve read this book, I’ve always imagined them wandering through beautiful landscapes and ancient forests. As soon as I saw this ring, it screamed Daine.
These gorgeous resin rings feature landscapes within the ring themselves. The one pictured here would be my choice – a forest with a small waterfall. StoreGreenWood has loads of options though, and every ring is a piece of artwork.
Pony Clip Bookmark
Daine’s pony, Cloud, is one of her best friends. Even when Daine was living with the wolves, Cloud stuck close to her side. It’s only fair that the plucky little pony join this box!
This is a pocket-sized bookmark – an embroidered pony on felt and affixed to a paper clip. This is a great style of bookmark to have on hand if you’re traveling or just prone to losing bookmarks… or reading more books than you have bookmarks for! This is handmade over at The Crafty Cat Corner.
Plush Bat Stuffed Animal
One of the many creatures Daine comes into contact with as she is learning her magic and helping King Jonathan and Queen Thayet are bats! She uses them for her eyes and ears at night. Since this MYOBB is coming in October, I think these adorable plush bats are our perfect companion.
These cuties are hand sewn by Choly Knight in a soft, minky material that it’s impossible not to cuddle with. She also makes them in any color!
The Mood Lighting
Wolf Spirit Candle
Like horses, wolves are very important animals to Daine and ones she comfortably relates to, although she’s a bit terrified of regressing… although I won’t talk any more about that because those are some spoilers for the second book in this quartet! A wolfish candle seemed like a good fit for Daine.
This particular candle has glitter, so I’m a huge fan. It has pine, thyme, black pepper and cedar wood as part of the aromas, not to mention a score of other smells! These soy candles are homemade by Mixed Mythologies.
“Be Wild and Free” Keychain
Before anyone gets too excited – there are no unicorns in these books! What I really liked about this item is the inscription – “Be Wild & Free”. There’s nothing tame about Daine, although she keeps a lot of herself locked inside. When she was orphaned, she joined a wolf pack as one of their own. Her magic (talking to animals) is called “wild magic”… thus the title of this book. This message is 100% Daine.
This adorable keychain is made by Designs By Marlayna.
Something Just For You
“Wild Magic” Art Print
JUST WHEN I HAD GIVEN UP, I discovered this gorgeous art print on Society6 of Daine! This is the only thing I found on the entirety of the internet for a product that has anything to do with this book, and it’s AMAZING, so I am completely thrilled to share it with you.
The style of this fan art is beautiful and definitely suitable to Daine. I really like the different animal patterns in the colored flow behind her. I definitely want to support this artist, so this print from Rose Frith has to be in this box.
