Happy Saturday everybody!
It’s been a full month of The Hunger Games coming in second place and finally you guys voted it to a first! I had a feeling this one would come eventually, and honestly, I was a little nervous about making this box. Lionsgate has been sort of notorious for shutting down any fan art and products inspired by The Hunger Games. I used to sell bookmarks on Etsy, eons ago, and my Hunger Games products were pulled almost immediately. When I did a quick search at the time, I found it devoid of everything.
Maybe it’s just because they’re not making films or merch anymore, but a search on both Etsy and Society6 these days is lush with results! So my worries were unfounded and I’m really excited to present some cool products.

The Book
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don’t live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before -and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
If you somehow missed The Hunger Games, this book is a must-read for dystopia fans. It started the most recent explosion of dystopia fiction in the same way Twilight brought vampires into the YA light way-back-when. Katniss is a great character and while there YES is a love triangle, Katniss sort of does this “please, I don’t have time for this” thing that I really like. ALSO THE STORY. Is really interesting. And Rue….
This book is available on Book Depository and they ship for free worldwide!
The Bling
Mockingjay Brooch
You guys knew this was coming, right? The Hunger Games does not exactly call for fancy wear, but Katniss adores the Mockingjay Brooch given to her by the mayor’s daughter and it becomes the symbol for the rebellion.
This pin is a different style from the one Katniss wears in the books. In creating this item, Perfect Goods went with the style of the open-winged Mockingjay from the third film – the symbol of breaking free. I really like that creative choice, which is why I went with this particular version of the pin.
The Bookmark
Trilogy Wooden Bookmark
The Hunger Games is the first book in a series of three. With each book, the Mockingjay on the cover opens more and more.
I looked and I looked and I could not find a bookmark I liked more than this wooden one from Midnight Alley Designs. Courtney’s on a brief hiatus, but according to her Instagram from early this month, she’s planning to come back soon… so while this bookmark isn’t available right now, it will be soon. It’s so cool – I think it’s worth the wait.
The Companion
Bow & Arrow Set
I know that I could have included Buttercup here – but lets be real. Katniss hates that cat and he hates her. What is more a companion to Katniss than anything is her trusty bow and arrow. It feeds her family and saves her life.
This is a really basic bow and arrow set for beginners – rubber-tipped arrows and all. Goodtrade Kevin has taken care to make sure you shouldn’t be able to hurt anybody when you’re out hunting down your mortal enemies.
The Mood Lighting
Peeta’s Bakery Candle
Katniss and Peeta have a history – one that began when they were younger and Katniss’ family was starving. You don’t have to like Peeta – many don’t – but you have to admire his kindness. Don’t know what I’m talking about? You’ll have to read the book and find out!
Given the choice, I will almost always choose candles that smell like food. YUM. This one is supposed to smell like sweet rolls and I love the label? The pixelated edge is a different look than I see on most packaging – +10pts. This candle is made by Nerdie Nifties and for those of your dorks like me out there, she always has a Paopu Fruit candle?! #KingdomHearts4Life
Something Practical
“Fire is Catching” T-Shirt
Can I fangirl for a second?
I love Megan Lara’s artwork. I have this gorgeous tee of The Gunslinger by her that NOBODY GETS but I don’t care because OMG she has the entire series in perfection.
So this design is of Katniss from Catching Fire and it’s SO GOOD and it has that incredible tarot card feel to the design and seriously just go to the Society6 shop and look at Megan Lara‘s artwork, okay? There’s so much here. You’ve got Peeta’s bread by her feet, and the three-fingered symbol of hope, and the mockingly pin, and I can’t see the detail in the background here but I just KNOW it’s symbolic to the arena.
LOVE.
Something Just For You
“The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook” by Emily Ansara Baines
HEY LOOK. Two books in one box!
Seriously, though, food is so important in The Hunger Games. There are loads of foods mentioned and there’s quite a lot of blood split over food. The way everyone lives in District 12 wheels around finding enough food to survive. So if you want to eat like Katniss and Peeta when they get to the Capitol, you need the recipes.
While I haven’t tried this particular cookbook, the unofficial cookbooks are usually decent. The Harry Potter one is great. Using this you can make Peeta’s father’s cookie and the cocoa from the train and everything.
If you try this, let me know how it goes!
This book can be shipped free worldwide from The Book Depository.

OOoh yay I voted for the Hunger Games and you’re finally making a book box for it! I love the trilogy so so much and the items you picked to put in the box are just perfect 😍 The “Fire is Catching” t-shirt is so beautiful ohmigawd I’m gonna go look at Megan Lara’s artwork like right now 😀
YAY! I’m glad one you wanted finally popped up! 😛 Just goes to show that persistence pays off! I always include the second place because, well, clearly people wanted it, it just didn’t win that week. 😛
ISN’T MEGAN LARA’S ARTWORK BEAUTIFUL!? I had forgotten about it for a while until I put together this box and I spent about an hour just looking at and analyzing her work as I typed up this post. It’s just soooo intricate and pretty and agdfgj”pdsjgdl wonderful. 🙂
Bravo!! Another fun box that I wish were real XD
Yay, I’m glad you liked it, Ali! You can always make your own! 😉
I LOVEEE THG almost as much as Twilight!! I haven’t read the books in some time now but I watch the movies all the time when they come on TV. Katniss is such a reluctant hero but it worked out for her somehow in the end.
I love reluctant heroes – I really think they’re the most interesting! I love to watch their journeys and I definitely think that Katniss was one of my favorites. Although the trilogy ending just killed me! 🙁
Aww man Mockingjay deaths have ruined big epic war books for me. So sad. 🙁
I just finished Mockingjay for the first time a couple days ago, and I am so not recovered yet! I was almost crying reading this post for goodness sakes!
Oh my gosh, Mockingjay just DESTROYS doesn’t it?! Especially the first time through when you’re not expecting Prim! :'(
YESSSSSSS!!!! It was SOOOOOOO painful!!
