Good morning everyone! Happy Saturday! After a two week hiatus, we’re getting back to the MYOBB posts – yay! This week’s book is the popular Legend by Marie Lu. I read this book earlier this year and the review just dropped for it. I’ve got to be real honest – it was not one of my favorites? But ya’ll voted for it, so I’m determined to make the best gosh darned book box I can for you ladies and gents!
A Dystopia Inspired Gift Box for Book Lovers.
Legend by Marie Lu
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.
This book is available on Book Depository and they ship for free worldwide!
Legend Series Chain Bracelet
Every bookish person needs more opportunities to show off their book-love. If you’re a fan of the Legend series then you will seriously love this bracelet. Not only does it feature all three books in the trilogy, but the charms are also reminiscent of things that you read about. Not going to give any spoilers – you’ll just have to read for yourself
This bracelet is made by CREAle on Etsy. The bracelet comes all the way from Italy. This shop has all sorts of gorgeous bookish jewelry.
“The Girl Who Glitched” Bookmark
If you’re a fan of Marie Lu’s, then you know all about Warcross, her summer 2017 release. Warcross has the same signature style as Legend and also features in a sort of dystopian future, albeit one very different from Legend.
When I saw this bookmark, I couldn’t pass it up. The coloration is beautiful and the design exquisite. This is sold by zwischenseitlich on Etsy, and is one of many beautiful designs carried in that shop.
Crochet Daschund Dog
One of June’s only family members and companions in Legend is her dog, Ollie. She loves him, and he is there for her all the time. Therefore, a little Ollie of your own is a non-negotiable part of this book box.
I’m a sucker for amigurumi; I think it’s the cutest thing. For my pick, I went with this sweet little black daschund from CuriousNarwhal but you could definitely include your choice of breed and color. 🙂
The Mood Lighting
The Republic Candle
The Republic is home to June and Day. It makes up the west coast of America – Seattle, California, etc. As we travel with the two main characters of the book, this candle is perfect to light to add another bit of sensory information to the book – the sea breeze and sharpness of the city combined will really bring you to the Republic.
This lovely soy candle is made by the amazing folks at StubTailCandleCo. They make bookish candles and actually have other ones from the Legend trilogy. I thought The Republic would be the most appropriate one from the first book.
First Aid Kit
Thank goodness for Tess.
Not only is she (in my opinion) the best character in the book, but both June and Day would be long dead without her medical expertise. Unfortunately, not all of us have a Tess in our lives to make a splint or stitch up a gash, so a first aid kit is a good thing to have on hand.
I found this particular kit on Amazon but any well-rounded first aid kit will do!
Something Just For You
“Each Day Means a New 24 Hours” Clock
“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time… You try to walk in the light.”
In Day’s life, this quote is particularly important. Every day is a new adventure, but every day is also filled with dangers. And yet… I think this actually ties into our own lives. We just have to do the best we can and take each day as it comes. The clock is a good reminder.
This quote was definitely made for a clock. The typography design comes from Isabelle Silva and is available on Society6!
