Happy Saturday, my beautiful monsters! I hope everybody had an amazing New Years Eve and Day. I haven’t really celebrated since I was in college, but Matt and I have a New Years Eve taco tradition and basically just gather ourselves and prep for 2018. Which is going to be an AMAZING year in books, by the way!
This week, I’m going to be focusing on Seraphina by Rachel Hartman. This was one of my absolutely favorite reads of 2017, and I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts on Tess of the Road with y’all next month! In the meanwhile, though, I hope you enjoy the collection of music and dragon themed goods for this box!
A Dragons & Music Inspired Gift Box for Book Lovers.
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Seraphina is a half-dragon, descended from a dragon mother who took human form and a father who has no particular fondness for Seraphina’s kind. Not that anyone else does either. Hers is a world where dragons and humans live and work side by side–but below the surface, tensions and hostilities are on the rise. Seraphina guards her true self with all of her being, but when a member of the royal family is brutally murdered, she’s suddenly thrust into the spotlight, drawn into the investigation alongside the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian. As the two uncover a sinister plot to destroy the wavering peace of the kingdom, Seraphina’s struggle to protect her secret becomes increasingly difficult . . . and its discovery could mean her very life.
Okay, so there are several different versions of Seraphina out there, but I’ve linked the purple cover (not pictured) because I think it’s fantastic and that’s the one I would prefer to own (stupid Thriftbooks sending a different cover).
This book is available on Book Depository and they ship for free worldwide!
Something to Wear
Metal Dragon Scale Cuff by Nasty Woman Crafts
The relationship between humans and dragons is so so important in Seraphina. Add into the mix the dragon/human hybrids and you have a whole additional problem. This cuff is gorgeously made – like chainmail – and is perfect for cosplay and renaissance fairs. Additionally, it has the look of a few dragon scales similar to a few characters in the story.
Something to Mark Your Place
Glow-In-The-Dark Dragon Bookmark by Kingworths
I adore bookmarks with luminous beads! They feel so fantastical, just like magic. This bookmark stands for all the dragons in the story – Orma is my personal favorite. He is Seraphina’s tutor and friend, and she in turn helps him behave more like a human when he is in his guise. Orna is the one who taught Seraphina music.
Something to Keep With You
Red Cedar Flute by Grey Fox Flutes
In the opening scenes of the book, Seraphina is forced last minute to fill in a space at the royal funeral’s musical schedule and she chooses to play her flute. Up until that moment, she’d managed to keep out of the public’s eye with her musical abilities. She is immediately thrust into fame (which she spends the rest of the book humbly shying from). A flute is essential to this box.
Something to Set the Scene
Dragon Hoarde Candle by Cosplay Soy Candles
If you’re going to light something on fire, it might as well be dragon themed! This week’s candle has a thick, smoky aroma, much like the dragon battle over the kingdom near the end of the book. I’d recommend lighting it when the dragons show their claws to really get into the mood.
Handmade Treble Bass Clef Heart Mug by Dragonfly Pottery Com
Seraphina has a definite medieval vibe to its world, and so a handcrafted mug would suit it perfectly. Mugs like this can be used for everything from tea or ale, but usually fare better if they are hand washed. This particular mug has a musical theme, if you – like Seraphina or Loud Lad – have a love for sounds and music.
Something Just For You
Fruit Bat Coffee Cozy by Bat Girl Designs
Fruit Bat is one of my favorite characters in this book! I had to figure out some way to include him. This adorable bat mug cozy is perfect for any hot drink! And even though Fruit Bat isn’t a real bat, I still this this is fantastic. I chose the design with all the fruit on it (of course) but there are a bunch of other designs available in the shop!
