Street Team: The First Two Chapters of Ace of Shades

The First Two Chapters of Ace of Shades: My Initial Reactions

Posted January 20, 2018 by Amber in Reading / 5 Comments

Ladies and gents, I’ve said this a few times on Twitter – but if you haven’t already done so, get yourself to Amanda Foody’s website and read the first chapter of Ace of Shades.

It’s a pretty rare opportunity that an author puts a full chapter sampler of her upcoming novel on her website.  Take advantage of this.

For myself, I’ve had the opportunity to read the first two chapters of Ace of Shades and I am in love with this book.  And I’m not just saying that because I’m part of the Shadow Gang!  The worldbuilding in Ace of Shades is incredible (I would expect nothing else after Daughter of the Burning City!) but of greater importance to me?  Enne and Levi.

In chapter one, you meet Enne Salta, the heroine of Ace of Shades.  She stands out immediately because she’s different from other heroines.  I’ll talk about this a little more next week, but Enne stands out in her demeanor.  Most YA heroines, especially in fantasy, are sassy breech-wearing, gender-bending badasses.  And I love that trope.  Enne is not that heroine, but she is just as good.

Chapter two introduces Levi.  My loves, I think that the Lord of Irons has already stolen my heart.  I can’t wait for everyone to meet him, because he is a delight.

If the first chapter is a tease of New Reynes, the second chapter ups the stakes several times over.  I feel like I’ve tasted gourmet chocolate and I am starved for the rest.

Overall, I could not be more excited to read the rest of this novel!

I actually found out shortly after writing this post last week that I won an ARC from Amanda! I’m really excited to read the rest of it. :). You never really know about an author until you get a couple books in (although I liked Daughter of the Burning City)… I think Amanda Foody is going to be a force to be reckoned with. 🙂

I’m so glad you found it interesting! It feels very Gambit meets Oceans Eleven meets something dark and dangerous to me. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to pick it up!
