Dear TBR Jar: Send Me These 9 Books

Posted November 6, 2018 by Amber in Memes / 14 Comments

I have resigned myself to the fact that my TBR is eternal and there’s nothing I can do about it.  There are simply too many books out there that sound so wonderful, and life is too short… and these days, I really only have time to read on the weekends, anyway.

Except for audiobooks.  With an 87 mile commute each way, audiobooks are my life.  All hail audiobooks!

Because of my limited time and space, I’m supposed to be pretty strict about what I read.  I go through my TBR shelf on Goodreads in chronological order of when I added the book and try to get that book via Overdrive.  As for my hardcopy… I have four TBR jars.  It’s a problem.  Someday I’ll talk more about it.

Thing is, if I’m strictly keeping to the TBR jars, then I put all titles in them.  It’s part of my Great Bookcase Crusade to clear out my hardcopy to the keepers.  I’m a book collector, but for re-reading and love purposes, not because books are pretty (they are so pretty).  The system makes sure I’m just as likely to pull Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde as I am Renegades by Marissa Meyer.  It means there are books that I want to mood read that I am patiently waiting for.

Because if I cheat the TBR Jar, I start mood reading.  And when I mood read, I re-read.  Hello Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the fifteenth time.  There is chaos.

I’ve got some books on my shelf that are killing me right now.  Ones I’ve wanted to read, and just haven’t pulled yet.  Don’t get me wrong – sometimes it works in my favor.  A lot of my backup is my 2018 Debut TBR Jar, which I’ve split out to give this year’s new authors some of the limelight while it’s still 2018.  I still have six more books in that jar to read in the next two months, so I’ve been hyper-focused on that one.

Still, though.  I really wish some of these books would pop up.  And yes I know I am a grown woman and can cheat the Jar.  Some rules are sacred, y’all.

This week’s topic was:

Backlist Books I Want to Read

Honestly, these 9 books really only scrape the surface for me.  I look at my hardcopy shelves and basically… any of them sound good – usually any one EXCEPT the one I pull from the TBR Jar, haha!

What books do you have that you’re dying to read?

Do you use a villainous TBR Jar?

What book do you plan to read next?

I am looking forward to Moxie SO MUCH. Maybe too much. I’ve hyped it up so much in my head, I’m concerned about letting myself down. XD

  1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite HP book <3 and I couldn't do a TBR jar like you are! It would send me into a reading slump. I am a total mood reader and if I don't follow my mood I don't read at all! Also I loved DOTPK <3

I sort of expected it would get me into a reading slump, but it’s not! It’s forcing me to pick up books I wouldn’t normally mood-pick, and I’m finding a lot of stuff I really like but didn’t expect to. 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Love how this was presented!! And I hope the TBR jar works in your favor lol! I went to a Marissa Meyer event last night so fueled from that I’d recommend Renegades first lol!

If you want to help me pick my next read feel free to check out my backlist selections here:

Thank you! … That must have been the Arch Enemies event? Did you have fun? I saw a lot of people going to those on Instagram and they looked like a blast – very much like the old “The Next Harry Potter book is coming out!” days. 😀

  3. Great list! Wild Beauty and The City of Brass are both books I really want to cross off my TBR. Howl’s Moving Castle is a lot of fun – it’s very different to the Studio Ghibli adaptation, but they’re both such wonderful versions of the same story so I always want force them both on everyone I meet.

Ooo, it’s good to know that they’re really different. I haven’t seen it in a while, but it’s always sort of shocking when the book and film are completely different, so it’s best to go in prepared. 😉

  4. Cheat the jar haha! I know what you mean though, it’s hard to get to ALL the books!

I’ve heard really good things about Moxie and Daughter of the Pirate King.

Everyone tells me to cheat the jar! XD

My odds will get better soon – only 1 books left in my 2018 Debut TBR Jar sooo then at least I’ll be picking out of the other pile where all these books live! 😀

  5. I used to have a TBR jar, but I think I just gave up on it and read what I wanted when I wanted haha! XD

I haven’t read any of the books on your list. I really want to read Renegades, City of Brass, Daughter of the Pirate King and Moxie!

    My TTT post!

We’ll have to connect once both of us have read those ones! 😛 I definitely go a bit rogue on my audiobooks, since those are just from the library anyway. 😛 But hardcopy reads, I try to keep it in control. 🙂

  6. I haven’t read any of the books on your list, but I’ve been dying to read Wild Beauty – or any book by this author, really, I just feel like I’d love everything she writes so, very much! I heard amazing things about Renegades, The City of Brass and They Both Die at the end just as well. Here’s to hoping you’ll get them soon 😀 x

I’ve heard really good things about all of them too. Actually, about almost all the books on my shelf, haha. I hope they’re all as good as folks are saying. 🙂 And I hope you’re able to get to Wild Beauty soon!
