Another month of Nerdy Post! For those who haven’t popped over for my other Nerdy Post unboxing, Nerdy Post is a monthly subscription box that centers around a theme. There are different tiers of box that cost different amounts, depending upon what you want to receive.
Nerdy Post is a box that does not include a book. The themes can be anything from pop culture. Alexis curates boxes that are around bookish themes, but she’s also done television and cinema.
The May theme was the Weasleys! Nerdy Post has done a Harry Potter box before, but this is the first time it’s revolved around just one group of characters. I love the Weasley family, so this box was a must-have for me.
I usually get the Ultimate Nerdy Post, which is the middle tier. A typical Ultimate NerdyPost looks like this:
- 1 print
- 2 mini prints
- 1 bookmark
- 1 postcard
- 1 enamel pin
- 1 candle
- 1 larger item
- 1 sticker
- 1 large bonus item
- 1 small bonus item
This month had a couple of different items – a bathbomb instead of a candle, for example. Otherwise, you’ll see!
First up in this month’s box is a canvas pouch with Owl Order written on it. This is the owl order pouch for the deliveries desk at Weasley Wizard Wheezes. The print quality of this item is so-so… most of it is illegible. I’m not sure if this is by design or because of the texture of the pouch. It could have been fun to reach who was ordering what, but there you have it. Otherwise, I really like the design format of this item, and pouches are always useful so that’s good!
This month’s pin is the flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. As far as me liking it… this pin honestly just has bad timing. I just received a pin from Riddle’s Tea Shoppe that had the Ford Anglia as part of the design and I liked it better, so it’s hard not to compare! Nerdy Post’s pin are always pretty light, which I’m not a super fan of. Honestly, I haven’t liked most of their pins; the exception to this is the sectosempra pin in the Dark Arts box.
As soon as an Arthur Weasley based bath item was announced, I knew it was going to be rubber duck centric! I know that the rubber duck thing is from the movie, but it cracks me up. This is a little package with four mini bath bombs and a rubber duck by Snow Cut Soaps. I love these mini bath bombs! They’re adorable, and the wee little rubber duck was the perfect touch. My only complaint – and this is personal preference, so you may love it – is the aroma. I really really don’t like cherry flavored and cherry scented things? So that was a bummer. But it’s a bath bomb, so I’m definitely going to use them anyway.
This month’s poster is a family portrait of the Weasleys. Okay on one hand, the art is lovely. But honestly? I don’t know what to do with it. Framed fictional family portraits aren’t really my thing.
The vinyl sticker this month is inspired by the letter Molly Weasley sends to Harry at the Dursley’s and it’s super fun. All those stamps! Although I doubt that they would have been all wizard themed, but this is a fun design none-the-less. Also a much more creative design for the sticker than usual – it’s cool to see it more than just a quote!
Nerdy Post always include a color-it-yourself postcard, and I am never impressed with this item. For some people, this will be right up your alley! I just tend to not love this coloring book style item. This month’s, I find particularly unimpressive? I love this quote, but the blocky letters don’t do it for me. Sorry! But I expected not to love this item, so that’s okay. Not disappointed, no harm done!
I thought this next item was really cool. It’s a double-sided map of Weasley Wizard Wheezes? I’m here for anything Fred and George anyway, but I loved the colors of this? It’s on a light paper, kind of like a newspaper consistency. I photographed the backside of the map, which has all the colors! They’re all wizarding advertisements. This definitely feels like something you’re pick up in a basket near the door when you walk in and that’s cool. It’ll be a fun item to bookstagram!
One of the big winners in this box is the fat bookmark. One side is a really simple drawing of the burrow, and the other side is a perfect quote that everyone loves and I’m kinda surprised there’s not more merchandise for!
The thin bookmark also has some pretty memorable quotes! Like the fat bookmark, this is a double-sided bookmark with Weasley quotes on both sides.
Finally, there are the prints!
There’s a lot of stuff in this box, guys. Are you still with me?
There were three prints in this box. The first is the colorful warning from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix where Fred and George can use magic legally, and they’re being prats about it. But Fred and George are the best. Also, I think Alexis (the curator) must agree, because there’s a lot of love for the twins in this box. One of the other prints is based on them, too. This one is colorful and a little intense? It’s on the back side of the spoiler card and I gotta be honest, I wasn’t a fan of that one. It took me a while to figure out what was going on.
The final print is the foil print. This one is usually my favorite – I’ve got previous foil prints from this box hanging on my wall instead of just leaving them until I need to bookstagram. I really like this month’s print because it’s one of my favorite moments in the first movie when the trio meets on the train for the first time, and already Fred and George playing pranks on their little brother.
And that’s everything!
Guys, I feel like there was so, so much in this box. A lot fo prints and a lot of paper products. Most of all, this box was chock full of colorful items! I love that so much – there wasn’t a single item with a black background and everything was really vibrant and cheerful. That really works for my personal aesthetic, but it was also pretty intense once it was all laid out.
There were some designs I really loved in this Nerdy Post crate, and others I wasn’t fond of. In some cases, I was a little surprised at the chosen quotes. A lot of them felt like they were pretty situational. It also felt heavy on paper items, but I suppose technically this box always is.
Even though I like Nerdy Post’s swag in general, I think after this box I’m going to take a bit of a break. There were only a couple items I really loved and the rest are going in a bookstagram possibility stack, so I’m just not super excited to get another box for a while. But if you’re looking for bookish swag, I still recommend Nerdy Post. Alexis is so transparent about what items will be coming and which quotes will be used, so you can always preview before renewals. This is also the easiest box to skip, and I really appreciate her customer service.
Which of the Weasley siblings is your favorite? I always liked Ron growing up, but I’ve grown to have a soft spot for Ginny over the years. That said? The twins take my top spot every time. What about you? Let me know in the comments!
