It’s that Time Again! Off-the-Grid Readathon IV is here!

It’s time again for my favorite readathon.

Okay, so it’s the only readathon I do, but I do it every single time.  It allows me to work with random books and read whatever’s going on in my backlog, which I really like.  Seriously, give me a readathon that tells me to “just read” and I’m there for it.

The Off-The-Grid readathon is hosted by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm and Justine @ I Should Read That.  The concept is simple:  put down your phone and read.  No points or levels or mini-bosses or rankings.  Just read.

This month’s readathon starts Friday, July 12th @ 12:01am and ends Sunday, July 14th @ 11:59pm.

Yes, loves, it starts tomorrow.

I always give you lots of time to prepare for these things, don’t I?  Well, if it’s too late for you to join in this weekend, set a reminder in your phones for the next one starting October 11th!  It’s the last one this year, and really, you should join in on the fun. 😉  Make sure to follow @OffTheGridReads on Twitter for reminders and updates, or if you’re more of an Intagrammer, they’ve got you covered there @offthegridreadathon.

I don’t know how I manage it, but this readathon hit a bad weekend for me two sessions in a row.  I always work Fridays, so I’m usually not able to participate much that day, so instead I turn to audiobooks.  I don’t really keep an audiobook TBR, because it’s all about which books are available on Libby when I’m ready for a new one, so those will have to be a surprise I reveal in the review. 😉

This session, I’m actually working on Saturday as well!  We’ve got software testing, and the testing date just fell wrong for me, which was sort of a bummer.  More audiobooks for Saturday then!

To make up for lost time, and because I have the day off to go to the dentist (boo), I’m going to let this readathon stray into Monday.  And it’s okay guys, because Shanah/Justine already gave me permission. 😛

For the evenings (and Sunday) I’ll actually be able to unplug and read, I’m still hoping to bust through three books.  As my followers know, the Archangel of Advanced Reading Copies has been kind this summer… and I have 10 more books to read before October without even considering my own TBR.

The first book I intend to read is Anna of Kleve:  The Princess in the Portrait by Alison Weir.  I’ve been recommended Weir’s historical fiction before, based on how much I enjoy Philippa Gregory, and Anna of Kleve is a tragically under-recognized wife of Henry VIII, so I was really excited when this popped up for request on LibraryThing.  I really enjoyed Gregory’s take on Anna in The Taming of the Queen, and am looking forward to revisiting the story from a different fictional perspective.  This is actually a finished copy, as the book was released in May, but I want to do right by Penguin and review expediently.

Scars Like Wings was one of the books on my Summer TBR, and it’s also my next NetGalley ebook.  I was reading a lot of contemporaries for a while in early June, but lately it’s been one fantasy after another, so I think this one is going to be a breath of fresh air.  That said, it also sounds like it’s going to be a heavy, sad book… so I’ve got to brace myself for that.

Given the amount of time I’ll have available to read, I’m not sure I’ll get through The Good Luck Girls, but I really want to.  I was excited for this one before BookCon, but after meeting Charlotte and hearing how excited she was for this story, I’m looking forward to this one even more.  Honestly, I’ve been excited to read it since I got it, but I’ve been making sure to read the books coming out before it first.  It’s so close, guys.

I look forward to checking in with y’all next week and letting you know how it went!  In the meanwhile, if you’ve got a free weekend, phone-free and holding a book is a great way to treat yourself, so I recommend joining in!

Are you participating in any readathons right now?  I saw a couple posts for a Medieval Readathon last week that looked pretty cool!  Which ones, if any, are on your radar?

  1. Ooh, I definitely need to join in on a read-a-thon, and I’m hoping to be able to do the 24-in-48 read-a-thon that’s happening next weekend, 07/20-07/21. I hope you have a lovely weekend of reading!

Thanks, Ericka! 🙂 I feel like the 24-in-48 happens around the same time as Off-The-Grid every session… do they run every 3 months as well? Maybe need to get on board with that….
