Hey y’all. Have you heard of Booktube-A-Thon?
Even though I’m not a Booktuber, don’t really follow much of Booktube… I know what this readathon is. It’s an epic week-long readathon and it’s been around since 2013. It’s the oldest online readathon I know of. I’ve never participated. As a blogger (not vlogger) I never really thought I could?
Which is dumb, I know.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m sure some people have joined it even without a Booktube… but this is really exciting for me. With a brand new flashy website where you can sign up and earn badges, Booktube-A-Thon has been reborn. It’s now called The Reading Rush and it is open to the entire community.
It’s like… NaNoWriMo but for readers. This is SO. COOL. I know I just came off a readathon, and I think it’s really unlikely that I’ll complete my TBR, but I had to give this, the first official “Reading Rush” a go.
As if of the present, this site is still pretty YouTube centric… and that makes sense! After all, this is a readathon designed by YouTubers, originally for YouTubers. For example, there’s no “your platform” link… just “your channel”. So when I put my blog address under there, it shows up as “YouTube Channel”. Still, that didn’t dissuade me from joining, and it shouldn’t dissuade you! It starts on Monday – you have a whole TWO DAYS to commit.
1 / Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody // purple cover, 5+ words in the title, author’s first book
2 / The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente // 5+ words in the title
3 / War Girls by Tochi Onyebuchi // author’s first book
4 / The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett // non-human MC
5 / Amber and Dusk* by Lyra Selene // purple cover, meant to read last year
6 / Girl, Interrupted* by Susanna Kaysen // book to film
Extra Credit / The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough // 5+ words in the title, read 7 books
*for the record, this is going to mess up my TBR Jar. Someday, I’m going to pull these out of the Jar, and they’ll’ve already been read. I hope.
There are several challenges this year, and I’ve picked my books accordingly. I’m hoping to push through all of these because I know I’m capable of a few books over the weekend alone. Some of these books have been on my TBR for an eternity (I’ve been meaning to read The Light Fantastic for twelve years. Yeah – I’m awful) and some are re-reads. Generally speaking… it was just nice to pick my own books? I did throw an ARC in there because I feel like I should be making some progress.
Also, worth noting: none of these are audiobooks. Yup, I’m going with 100% paper copies. I actually purchased The Light Fantastic and he Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making because I can’t find audiobook versions to borrow and it just felt like time. I really hope I like them, haha.
Who else is joining in on this adventure? Let’s keep each other accountable for the next week and have fun!
Good luck to all participants!
Have you participated in Booktube-A-Thon before? I’d love to hear about your experience and if you’re joining in this year let’s DEFINITELY cheer each other on! Let me know in the comments!
