Blogging Déjà Vu – Haven’t I Seen This Post Before? On Overused Topics in the Community

I have no less than three posts on The Literary Phoenix talking about reviews.  Want to know about logging reviews? Then you want this post.  Why I think book blogs should have reviews?  This post.  Want to hear about my observations on how reviews perform on my blog? I got you over here.  Basically, I’ve exhausted my opinions on book reviews.  And I’m not the only one. If you follow a few different book blogs, chances are you’ve seen a few common threads when it comes to posts.  Opinions on reviews are a big one.  You’ve probably also seen a […]

A Much Needed Hiatus

A Much Needed Hiatus

I’ve been fighting it for a little while, and I think it’s time to surrender.  I need a break. I swear – it’s not you, it’s me. February and March this year were particularly grueling months.  I’ve got some time-intensive work projects that are taking a lot of my creative energy and are more emotionally challenging than I expected.  On top of that, I’ve gone through some personal stuff that I don’t particularly wish to discuss at the moment, but I will give that as the excuse to say I feel like a hollowed out pumpkin and I’m ready for […]

Book Hauls, Privilege, Prioritization, & Moving On To Other Content

Book Hauls, Privilege, Prioritization, & Moving On To Other Content

Book hauls used to be pretty common on blogs. These days, I hardly see them anymore. There could be a few reasons for this.  Perhaps it’s just an “in the last year” thing.  After all, with all the book events being virtual and with people not going to bookstores so much and impulse bying everything, there’s likely fewer hauls to share.  Another possibility is that they’ve all gone to YouTube – I still see hauls frequently enough on BookTube. Or perhaps folks have taken a good hard look at that kind of content and decided it’s time to move on. […]

Anyone who is thinking about running a blog must first decide on the type of content they want to create.  In the last two decades, blogging has emerged as a medium between journalism and journaling – a way of writing opinion pieces and compiling information, but also creating the opportunity for the writer to throw in their own spin and frills. Almost everyone approaches their blog differently.  For myself, I like to talk directly to the reader, as though you and I are having a conversation, albeit a longwinded one on my end.  And for any conversation, you need a […]

2020 in Review: Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles

2020 in Review: Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles

Posted January 8, 2021 in Blogging, Bookish Things, Checking In // 0 Comments

It’s that annual wrap up time of year again! When I set up the placeholder for this post a year ago and called it “Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles” I had no idea how true that would ring.  I know I was thinking about following through on my personal reading challenge as well as Start On Your Shelfathon… but y’all?  2020 has been rife with reading challenges.  And blogging hurdles.  I am plum worn out. Usually, I use this post to share Goodread’s “My Year In Books”.  This year, I’m going to pull a little data from that page, but they’ve stripped […]
