10 Books Outside of my Comfort Zone (That I Really Liked!) – #TopTenTuesday

10 Books Outside of my Comfort Zone (That I Really Liked!) – #TopTenTuesday

I have a pretty specific set of books I like to read: YA Fantasy.  Sometimes I will shift from one of these – Adult Fantasy! YA Contemporary!  But my favorite is still YA Fantasy.  However, shifting far enough out of this genre to get into something really different?  So rare.  A book really need to catch my attention.  In fact? Half the time, even if it does, I’ll add it to my TBR and when it gets to the front of the line, I’ll say “eh no”. But I keep adding these books because – you never know!  Sometimes, I really, really like […]

Seven Books on Preorder I’m Dying to Read – #TopTenTuesday

Seven Books on Preorder I’m Dying to Read – #TopTenTuesday

Good morning everybody and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday!  It’s been a few weeks since I participated in one of these!  I actually just moved my To Buy wishlists from Goodreads to Amazon and Thriftbooks wishlists, so I’ve been thinking about the things I want to add to my library! That said, rather than go into the books that I want to buy, I actually want to share the ones that I have on pre-order!  My “To Buy” lists are made up of books I’ve listened to on audiobook and want to get a hardcopy of.  Most of those, […]

Authors Who Hooked Me With the First Book I Read (& I Am Forever Theirs)

Authors Who Hooked Me With the First Book I Read (& I Am Forever Theirs)

Good morning everyone! Every once in a while, I find myself reading a book that sucks me in.  Sometimes, it’s a debut that wraps me up so thoroughly that I can’t believe this author doesn’t already have a dozen publications behind them.  Other times, it’s an author who delights me every single time.  These authors are the ones that inspired to try and pick up their next work. If you haven’t read any works by these authors, or don’t have their debuts on your TBR, I  highly recommend them. Charlotte Nicole Davis Charlotte Nicole Davis is my most recent contribution […]

10 Pieces of Swag I Loved from Subscription Boxes

10 Pieces of Swag I Loved from Subscription Boxes

I do a lot of unboxing on this blog and I talk about the items I do and don’t like.  I know this is nothing like this week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt, but I’ve been wanting to deviate for a while and make a little space on my blog for this post, because I enjoy calling out some of the great creators in the community! There are a lot of items I’ve used here and there, and a lot of things that have been fun.  I love all the candles, honestly – I’m always excited when a candle or a pin […]

Where are all the Tamora Pierce Fans At? (+ My Ten Favorites) #TopTenTuesday

Where are all the Tamora Pierce Fans At? (+ My Ten Favorites) #TopTenTuesday

Did y’all know that I’m turning 30 this year?! For the record, 30 is a terrifying number.  You can sort of get away with a lot of indecision and childishness in your 20s, which is my zone.  By 30, generally speaking, you’re really expected to have your act together and behave in a socially acceptable way for an adult. I mention all this because I’m twisting today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt and using an author that is technically YA… but I started reading her books legit 17 years ago, so I feel like I can work with the umbrella of “childhood” […]

If You Haven’t Heard of Treasure Binding, It’s Beautiful

If You Haven’t Heard of Treasure Binding, It’s Beautiful

Did you know that book covers as we know them didn’t exist before the 19th century? As far back as the Middle Ages (1100 – 1453), books were largely religious artifacts.  Paper was precious, and as with most of history, spirituality influenced so many aspects of culture.  In medieval Europe, only about 10% of men and 1% of women were literate.  There were no need for books in the average home, so most of these remained relics of the Church. Don’t worry, I’m not going to go into a whole ramble about literacy and the history of books in general […]
