Wonderful Books that Need a Spotlight in the Blogosphere

Wonderful Books that Need a Spotlight in the Blogosphere

Book bloggers tend to be individuals who read a lot. A LOT.  It’s very easy to fall into the hype of books promoted by one of the bigger influencers in our community.  These books blossom out like wildfire.  And, yes, they’re largely very good.  Things like Six of Crows and Strange the Dreamer.  But there are books – a lot of other books – that slip under the radar.  And they’re good books. Today, I want to share with you some great books that haven’t been really seen by the community as a whole.  Only two of these books are pre-orders (so […]

The Hiatus Bug

The Hiatus Bug

I am the queen of hiatuses.  I eat hiatuses for breakfast.  I invented the hiatus.  All bow before me! (Don’t worry, I’m not taking one.  This is just a post about taking hiatuses.) I have taken so many hiatuses that this blog actually has posts dating back to 2009, if you’re diligent enough to go digging.  There’s a reason why I’m The Literary Phoenix.  This blog has been reborn again, and again, and again. Fun fact – 2018 was the first year I didn’t take a hiatus.  Not a proper one, anyway.  I don’t think vacations really count, do you?  Vacation is vacation.  Hiatus […]

10 Love Stories That Melt My Heart

10 Love Stories That Melt My Heart

Earlier this month, I did the Anti-Valentines Book Tag, which was all about how I’m not a romantic and how my husband and I don’t celebrate Valentines Day.  I don’t want y’all to get the wrong idea though!  I’m not against love.  Cheesy love stories make me roll my eyes, but dang there are some out there that I’m crazy about. Some of them even make me go weak at the knees.  And while I complain a lot about a love story overriding the main plot, sometimes the love story subplot is the icing on the cake.  Here are ten couples whose love stories […]

How Do Y’all Feel About Giveaways? (Disclaimer: This is not a giveaway)

How Do Y’all Feel About Giveaways? (Disclaimer: This is not a giveaway)

How do you all feel about giveaways?  Do you feel they are essential to keeping new traffic coming to your blog?  Or Instagram account? I have very mixed feelings about giveaways. First of all, to answer my own question, yes, I think they’re pretty much expected on some platforms.  Instagram is a big one – there are a lot of milestone giveaways on Instagram.  In fact, I’m running one right now because it seems like a good way to grow followers and therefore influence.  I’d love to be a rep or influencer for one of the bookish candle companies I love, […]

Some New Books on My TBR… That I’ll Probably Read in 2023

Some New Books on My TBR… That I’ll Probably Read in 2023

I add so many books to my TBR so frequently that I am in NO WAY making a dent in that monster.  I add my books through a number of different ways: Because I just read the book and now MUST have the sequel. Because I just read a book and now MUST have more by that author. Because one of the people I follow on Goodreads just rated it high so I read the description and found it interesting. Because it’s a debut I find interesting – I’m constantly flipping through the debut lists on Goodreads. Because MacKenzie Lee […]

Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To

Books I Meant to Read In 2018 but Didn’t Get To

In June, it feels like there’s soooooo much time left in the year to work towards my annual goals and stuff, but dang.  The end of the year really snuck up on me in 2018.  I was going strong with the 2018 Debut Authors Challenge, and then about halfway through the year it occurred to me that I should probably start reading the debuts exclusively until I caught up.  Then those took me right to the end of the year, with An Absolutely Remarkable Thing just squeaking by. This year, I’m not actively participating in the debut authors challenge (says the girl who’s read three […]
