Hello, beautiful monsters! Today, I’m introducing another of my many, MaNy, mAnY, MANY works-in-progress.  Creatively, I’m going in reverse, with my newest WIPs first, and then maybe eventually someday, I’ll introduce you all to my favorite of all favorites, the novel I keep rewriting and restructuring… Fate. Today is not that day. Today, I’ll be introducing you all to A Star Danced! This WIP was my November 2018 NaNoWriMo project.  It was such a big deal for me because it was the first time I’d don’t something fully original for NaNo in years.  In previous times, I’d done rewrites or spinoffs of my […]

WIP Introductions: The Secret of Treacher’s Creek

WIP Introductions: The Secret of Treacher’s Creek

The first time I did Camp NaNoWriMo, I surprised myself by writing a ghost story.  Sometimes when I write – especially fantasy – I have a clear direction.  Anything else… I start going in one direction and about halfway through the manuscript, I find my path.  It’s a wonderful feeling, like wandering through a desert of words and suddenly cresting the final ridge to the oasis below. Anyway.  The Secret of Treacher’s Creek was one of my earliest finished drafts.  It’s also aesthetic and spooky and I really like it and I need to revisit it soon. A LITTLE ABOUT The […]

WIP Introductions: Rhapsody in Blue

Oh hello! I … allude to my WIPs a lot, but I don’t really talk about them very much?  It’s like they’re this secret I hold close to my heart, characters I’ve developed and stories I’ve dreamed up that will never completely materialize.  Sometimes, around NaNo, I talk about them a little.  But in general… they’re sweet coconut crisp secrets. Which is you know. Fine. Whatever.  Because every time I get excited enough about a WIP to talk about it on my blog, I get distracted by another shiny idea, or life, or whatever, and honestly guys I am never going […]

Five Things I Learned From Camp NaNo 2018

Five Things I Learned From Camp NaNo 2018

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve done it.  On Sunday, July 29th I validated my Camp NaNoWriMo novel.  Even my word processor – Dabble – was excited for me.  I got confetti fireworks and everything. As I’m writing this post on the 29th – mere seconds after validating – it feels… wrong.  I hate looking at this beautiful, delightful winner’s screen and feeling like I cheated.  Because, in a way, I have. For me, part of what makes NaNoWriMo, NaNoWriMo is finishing the novel.  And I haven’t.  I’m nowhere near.  This is one of the reasons why I tend to drift towards Camp […]

Beautiful Books 2017: Ashes to Ashes

So when I originally saw this prompt on Paper Fury, I was 100% definitely going to use The Story Collector, a story I’ve been picking at for three years and is super long and nowhere near done.  But for the last week or so, I’ve had an invasive story burrowing in my mind.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Where you have way more story ideas than time?  I have a whole notebook of ideas.  Enough for a dozen novels on top of the drafts I already have and need both editing and sequels. This one has been invasive, though. I try […]
