Hollywood Studios: Where the Magic of the Movies Comes to Life (Disney Pt. 5)

Hollywood Studios: Where the Magic of the Movies Comes to Life (Disney Pt. 5)

If you had asked me a couple of years ago which Disney park was my favorite, I’d have told you “Hollywood Studios!” without considering any other options.  There’s a lot that Hollywood Studios has to offer:  expansions, great restaurants, classic rides… and it’s definitely made for “older kids”. It’s still a good park, don’t get me wrong.  I may be just a bit bitter, since the Time Warner Classic Movies contract ended and my favorite ride is gone.  Or because the whole park was under serious construction.  In about three years, loves, Hollywood Studios is going to be impossible.  It was […]

Magic Kingdom: Where the Magic Began (In Florida) (Disney Pt. 4)

Magic Kingdom: Where the Magic Began (In Florida) (Disney Pt. 4)

Magic Kingdom was the first park opened Orlando, but Walt Disney didn’t live to see it.  For me, it is the quintessential Disney Park (sorry, California).  From the towering Cinderella’s Castle to the variety of rides and shopping – Magic Kingdom has something for everyone and there’s so much to do. I love this picture, by the way.  The colors and lighting and everything are perfect, and it makes it look like we’re the only ones in the park.  Which was definitely not the case.  This park is BUSY.  But what is particularly nice about Magic Kingdom is that there are a lot of […]

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Disney Pt. 3)

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (Disney Pt. 3)

Every year, the Disney parks hold two big, ticketed events:  Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.  These events run after the park closes for the night, and tickets for the event much be purchased separately (however, a park ticket is not required to attend).  Since they each run for a couple months, lots of visitors have the opportunity to join in the fun. Guys, I don’t want to sugar coat this for you.  I was so excited to be going to Halloween party, and everything I saw on line talked about how amazing it was and how the […]

Animal Kingdom: It’s Not Just a Zoo (Disney Pt. 2)

Animal Kingdom: It’s Not Just a Zoo (Disney Pt. 2)

Animal Kingdom is the Disney Park I’ve tended to skip when we were in Orlando.  I went when they first opened, but have almost no memory of the visit.  We went to Busch Gardens instead when we went to Orlando in 2013, but this time… I wanted to go to Animal Kingdom. My husband had never been, and I wanted to revisit. I am so glad we did. Animal Kingdom has its own kind of magic and vibrancy that’s different from the bustle of the other parks.  A lot of care has gone into the details – which is the case […]

Epcot: Disney’s Hub of Tech & Culture (Disney Pt. 1)

Epcot: Disney’s Hub of Tech & Culture (Disney Pt. 1)

Did you know that Epcot was never intended to be a theme park? Walt Disney was enamored with human innovation, and when he first envisioned the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, he saw a suburban living area where humanity could come together in the name of advancement.  It was to be a community for technology and innovation.  Think Eureka.  But when Walt Disney died in 1966, the plans were abandoned because honestly, what corporation wants the responsibility of an entire city? In the 1970s, Magic Kingdom had become so popular that the company wanted to expand and add another park to the […]

Lords and Ladies, I Present: King Richard’s Faire

Lords and Ladies, I Present: King Richard’s Faire

Y’all may remember that back in June, I was bemoaning the fact that I had missed ren faire season.  May and June are prime time for a lot of the smaller renaissance faires in New England because there’s no point in competing with all the county fairs in the fall. That is, of course, unless you are a Really Big Renaissance Faire.  There are a couple big ren faires within driving range of where I live, and my husband and I have been toying with the idea of hitting up King Richard’s Faire in Carver, MA for a while now. […]
