Has anyone else read THE HEARTS WE SOLD? This is such an underrated YA book, unique and interesting. If you’re looking for a great standalone read, I recommend it!

Here’s my latest TBR shot! Okay okay. So as usual, I’ve already read a couple of these, and I’ve added a few more! I’ve read HIGHFIRE and DON’T ASK ME WHERE I’M FROM, and I’ve added A SONG OF WRAITHS AND RUIN, A SONG BELOW WATER, and EMPRESS OF ALL SEASONS to this TBR. Still, it’s a bit gratifying to be ahead of my TBR pictures. 🥰

I just finished DON’T ASK ME WHERE I’M FROM and it was SO GOOD. I’ve grabbed THE SILENCE OF BONES from the stack, but I haven’t started it yet. Still, I’m really excited - I’ve heard great things!

I’m SUCH a berry person, so I love summer when you can get raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries fresh and in-season! There are three PYO farms near us, and we’re definitely going to hit them up for blueberries soon.

Who else has read BORN A CRIME? Trevor Noah’s memoir had been on my TBR a while, but I ultimately picked it up an an airport in 2018 because... I dunno... it felt like the right time? I’m very glad I did because few books leave me speechless and this one... this one did. I cannot recommend Born a Crime enough. Doubly so for those diversifying their shelves and educating themselves more about the Black experience... you need this one.

Okay. So. You know how in Lilo & Stitch, they dress Stitch up as Elvis and try to endear him to the island but at the end of the day, his true colors shine through? We grow to love Stitch, of course, because Experiment 626 had a good heart. He got there in the end.

So. I’d like to give the benefit of the doubt to all those people who have burnt out and gone back to their “normal”. The ones who aren’t sharing stories or raising Black voices. But I’m naive... and also FRUSTRATED. I’m not a perfect person, but I’ve watched people move on with the news cycle. Even deleting the squares of solidarity because it messes up their feed aesthetic. ... Those squares are the literal LEAST we could do, and we can’t even commit to that?!?! Seriously?!?! Things aren’t getting better. There have been six lynchings this week, for example, and BREONNA TAYLOR’S MURDERERS STILL HAVEN’T BEEN ARRESTED. Black trans lives are being taken and we need to be EVEN LOUDER than we were two weeks ago. Instead, people are getting quieter. Black lives STILL matter, but as a whole, the country still isn’t *getting* it. The laws don’t reflect it, and even on social media we’re going back into our shells. 🛑 STOP 🛑. If you feel uncomfortable, if you feel exhausted, then imagine the weight your Black friends and family members carry with them EVERY DAY. They can’t just shut it off because they’re stressed or overwhelmed. We owe it to them to show up. We owe them so much more.
