The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

Ahhhh, complicated reviews are complicated, y’all. On one hand, The School for Good and Evil is a fun fairy tale world with quirky, interesting characters and a secret you spend the whole book impatiently waiting to find out. One the other hand, it’s all very shallow and slow-paced and the little feminist in me dies a bit every time there’s an inference that the princesses watch their waistlines. So, depending on the particular page or chapter, I either enjoyed this book… or it made me cringe. In the beginning, we are introduced to our two main characters (Sophie and Agatha) and […]

Eve by Anna Carey

Eve by Anna Carey

Eve was a difficult book. I wanted to like it, but somehow, it didn’t add up.  Eve is about post-apoctaylptic America, after a plague has wiped out most of the population.  Orphans, in particular, have been subject to the cruel regime and have become servants to build and repopulate.  The boys start in when they are young, but the girls are raised in the shadow of false hope.  Eve, our main character, is the smartest girl at her school when by chance someone who hates her reveals the whole dastardly truth and not only does she manage to pretty easily […]

Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen

Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen

I detest quitting a book, but I’ve just got to face the facts… there are too many books in this world to spend time suffering through one I dislike.  Bright Young Things was one of those books that just didn’t work for me.  It wasn’t what I was looking for right now.  It happens, but it doesn’t mean it won’t be right for you!  So, in list format, here’s why I decided not to continue this book: The introductory scene just seemed cruel to me.  Of all the starting places to pick, getting married then immediately running away for no […]
