Once upon a time, there was a princess.  This princess possessed magic, but needed to hide it because her grandfather the king kept people like herself in chains.  She survived for a while living two lives, but then she was discovered, and faced with death or enslavement, the princess made her own choice.  This is the story that Rhea Ravenna hears in the darkness of her attic, and it is a story that will change her life. At the beginning, I loved The Waking Forest.  Alyssa Wees’s writing is a little flowery, but I like that aspect.  Part One weaves between […]

While I had some fundamental issues with this book, I think the YA world in may just love it. Immoral Code tells the story of five teens, best friends since forever, taking action against injustice.  Bellany is brilliant and could go full-ride to MIT… except that her umber rich father still shows up on her FAFSA and she can get an ounce of support.  Even though her father abandoned her before she was born.  When Bellamy tries to call him, he hangs up on her.  So that’s it.  No MIT. Except her friend Narioka, hacker extraordinaire, has a different idea. […]

I’m positively enchanted by Enchantée. I must admit, when I requested this ARC from NetGalley, I had my reservations.  This is one of those examples where the online bookish community really came through for me.  I discovered Enchantée through a giveaway on Roshani Chokshi’s page.  There was a massive joint giveaway for six ARCs upcoming in 2019, and when I got to Gita Trelease’s page, Enchantée stood out.  Why?  The cover is freaking gorgeous. So when I saw it on NetGalley, I figured – sure, I’ll request that!  Two weeks-ish later, I got my acceptance email, and I read 40% of the book that first […]

Roshani Chokshi is a popular, successful author, and I hate to confess I haven’t read anything by her until now.  When I received The Gilded Wolves from NetGalley, it was so long after my request that I had forgotten that I requested it.  As some of you may know, I stopped requesting ARCs in the spring because I wanted to focus on the books I already own.  I’m very grateful to have gotten the opportunity to read this book early, because I am hooked on Chokshi now. The Gilded Wolves is a steampunk novel, set in an alternate Paris.  There’s magic […]

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from NetGalley and Charlesbridge Teen in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. I was so, so excited when I got this book on Netgalley because I am ALWAYS down for a good necromancer story.  When I read Reign of the Fallen earlier this year, it was a beautiful relief to read such a good necromancer story!  I wanted more!  I needed more!  Twice Dead was… not quite what I was looking for. As a whole, it’s not bad, per se.  There […]
