Book vs. Film: A Wrinkle in Time (SPOILERS!)

Book vs. Film: A Wrinkle in Time (SPOILERS!)

This movie was such a hot mess for me.  The plot was so messy and conformed to YA Contemporary standards where this is a classic YA fantasy novel… it just made me so sad in so many ways.  I’m going to go through the story now, and this is super ranty because I was typing as I watched… so be prepared! If you go back and read my review of A Wrinkle in Time, you’ll see I said one of my favorite parts of the book – of any book ever actually – was the first chapter.  Meg’s unsettled feelings […]

10 Characters Who are Way Cool & I’d Like To Be

10 Characters Who are Way Cool & I’d Like To Be

One of the things that I love about reading is how easy it is to get sucked into a story, as if you were really there.  When he world around you gets tough – whether it’s at a global level or just your own bubble – it’s nice to be able to escape somewhere.  I’m sure that the characters in the books may not agree, considering all their misfortunes… but sometimes, I wish I could step into their shoes for just a day. Here’s a few people who tempt me!              Thursday Next The Eyre Affair […]

My Ten Favorite Book Subjects (The Data Speaks!)

My Ten Favorite Book Subjects (The Data Speaks!)

Hi all! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about the longest books you’ve ever read.  While this is a great topic, it’s very similar to The Mountain Book Tag which I did earlier this year, so rather than repeat content, I thought I’d bring you a different top ten… one of my very own. This week, I want to talk about my top 10 book tags!  This isn’t in regard to Book Tags in the traditional sense… these are subject tags I use on my LibraryThing account.  For all the books I’ve read, I go through and tag them with […]

January Wrap Up

January Wrap Up

2018 is off to a roaring start, n’est pas, mes chers?  I’ve not been subtle about how much 2017 stunk for me, so I’m absolutely thrilled with the way January has unwound so far.  I hope everyone else has had a good start, too! I ended up with quite a good haul this month – after a slow December on NetGalley, I ended up being granted 5 books.  I timed my requests so that there’s nothing immediate, so reading them shouldn’t be a challenge (The Phantom Tree releases in August!). I believe there’s a lot of little ones in this set… Blood Will […]

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

Of all the books I’ve read across my twenty-eight years, the opening of A Wrinkle in Time is still among my favorites.  An old, dusty attic.  A howling windstorm outside.  A girl lying in bed, listening to the weather, terrified.  And angry that she is so afraid. This is Meg Murray, one of the original YA heroines. I want to try a bit of a different review style with this book.  One of my goals this year is to improve my reviews so they flow better.  I’m going to try a bulleted review… let me know if this reads better than […]

TOTALLY AWESOME Assigned Reading – #TTT

TOTALLY AWESOME Assigned Reading – #TTT

So last week, I ranted like crazy about Dune.  My WORST EVER assigned reading book that, despite being in my genre, I HATED WITH THE PASSION OF BURNING HELLFIRE. I am dramatic. But there are really good books that I was assigned for school reading as well.  ONE OF THEM is even in my Top Ten.  So, without further ado – this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by the gorgeous ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. Elementary School I’m going to start at the lower grades and move up, because honestly, there are some SOLID books intended for elementary school […]
