Good morning my lovelies, and happy Saturday!  For today’s Ace of Shades feature, I’ve snagged a brand new book tag from Min and her Books.  Min is on the Doves team, but this tag is so great, I had to give it a go!  I’ve updated Question 4 to my team, team Irons, but do check out the original post and Min’s blog in general. 🙂 Ace of Shades takes place in the very mysterious, very dangerous City of Sin. Name a fictional city with a personality of it’s own! Gammorah from Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody First of […]

January Wrap Up

January Wrap Up

2018 is off to a roaring start, n’est pas, mes chers?  I’ve not been subtle about how much 2017 stunk for me, so I’m absolutely thrilled with the way January has unwound so far.  I hope everyone else has had a good start, too! The Monthly Book Haul I ended up with quite a good haul this month – after a slow December on NetGalley, I ended up being granted 5 books.  I timed my requests so that there’s nothing immediate, so reading them shouldn’t be a challenge (The Phantom Tree releases in August!). I believe there’s a lot of little ones […]

Why Aren’t There Girly Girls in YA Anymore?

Why Aren’t There Girly Girls in YA Anymore?

With the rise of modernity, we come to a world in YA literature where all proper heroines are gleefully trading in their gowns for breeches.  But why? Because dresses are a symbol of gentle femininity, of demure responses and calculated flirtations?  While I am all for the rise of the strong woman in YA, I am a little confused as to why this means our fearless YA heroines cannot embrace their femininity with pride. I am not a girly girl.  Not in the least.  I thrive upon lazy autumn days with combat boots and blue jeans and tank tops and one […]

The First Two Chapters of Ace of Shades: My Initial Reactions

Ladies and gents, I’ve said this a few times on Twitter – but if you haven’t already done so, get yourself to Amanda Foody’s website and read the first chapter of Ace of Shades. It’s a pretty rare opportunity that an author puts a full chapter sampler of her upcoming novel on her website.  Take advantage of this. For myself, I’ve had the opportunity to read the first two chapters of Ace of Shades and I am in love with this book.  And I’m not just saying that because I’m part of the Shadow Gang!  The worldbuilding in Ace of Shades is […]

A Publication Journey & Dream Realized – ACE OF SHADES

A Publication Journey & Dream Realized – ACE OF SHADES

I really love reading about publication journeys.  I love research, and learning about the journey from inspiration to novel fascinates me.  Ten years ago, it was a rare moment to find an author sharing their story, but these days, more and more authors are open with the journey. I love it.  It’s wonderful.  It shows the tides of hope and perseverance.  Hard work and talent.  And, most importantly, never giving up. As a writer, I have bad days.  I’ll have weeks where I don’t write a fictional word because what’s the point?  In times like those, success stories are amazing. I […]
