The June Wrap Up: With Movies, MasterClass, & SO MANY BOOKS

Happy July everyone! This month reminds me of picnics and spending summers at the lake by my family.  We didn’t have a lake house or anything, but there was a really nice beach in bicycling distance and there were some summers when we were there every day. Ah, life was so much simpler when I was twelve. Intense haul this month, mostly due to BookCon on June 1st, and a whole lot of ARCs?  Seriously, y’all are going to be drowning in book reviews in September because most of these books are published in September/October.  I’m both sorry for the […]

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

I’ve always found the conspiracy and the theology and the science in Angels and Demons fascinating.  It’s been over a decade since I have read the book, so most of what I remembered of it comes from the movie (which, in all fairness, I still think is a fantastic interpretation).  It seemed time to revisit, so here I am! Most of this is still very good.  The pacing keeps you on your feet the whole time.  The treasure map through Rome is fascinating – even though there’s murder, Dan Brown has done a fantastic job making the reader excited for the next stop.  As […]

10 Book to Movie Adaptations I Actually LOVED

10 Book to Movie Adaptations I Actually LOVED

Most of us bookish sorts talk about film adaptations with contempt.  We see the stories we know and love adapted into monstrosities that make our hearts ache and misrepresent everything we love to the non-reading public.  Believe me, I can relate.  I watched this happen with particular favorites, like Ready Player One and The Dark Tower. All that said, I’ve also come across several book-related films that I have particularly enjoyed.  Some of these weren’t even particularly faithful adaptations… but they managed to retain (for me) the spirit of the book and brought to life characters I adored.  In the bookish community, […]

Top Ten “Older” Books I Don’t Want People To Forget

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a freebie, and as such, I decided to go deep into the TTT archive and come up with something close to my heart.  You, my lovely followers, will know that I’m not always on top of the hottest books.  Sure, I read Children of Blood and Bone the month it was published, but it took me a year to get to The Hate U Give and I just read the hugely popular The Perks of Being a Wallflower last month (it was published in 1999).  I love reading older books, ones that may have been hyped […]

Audible Haul: January

Audible Haul: January

Posted January 15, 2017 in Reading // 1 Comment

One of my favorite things about being an Audible subscriber is that on the 6th of every month, I get two credits to buy whatever I want.  For those of you know have bought audiobooks straight out – you know that they usually go for about $30-50/each.  My subscription lets me get them for about $11, which is fine by me!  Because I spend so much time driving each week (my activity tracker says I was in transit for 16 hours last week), these audiobooks are lifesavers to me.  I look forward to my credit drop for a couple weeks before it […]
