Race to the Bottom of the Sea by Lindsay Eagar

Race to the Bottom of the Sea by Lindsay Eagar

Fidelia is not quite prepared for an adventure right now. Her parents were just hopelessly drowned in the Undertow all because she told them the storm was far off.  She’s mourning for goodness sake and her whole future hangs in balance.  EVERYTHING is changing. This is a super, super bad time for her to be abducted by pirates. Unfortunately for Fidelia, this is one of those instances where her opinion doesn’t matter very much, so kidnapped she is and bundled aboard the Jewel to sail with fearsome Captain Merrick the Monstrous and his crew of miscreants.  Her task?  Retrieve Merrick’s treasure from the […]

The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough

The Game of Love and Death by Martha Brockenbrough

This book is so beautifully written. Seriously, I think I am in love with it?  It’s so flowy and eloquent and the LOVE is beautiful and the DEATH is horrible and seriously Martha Brockenbrough knows her stuff – I’d like more books please.  The characters are all REALLY well done.  I thought Death was the most sabotaging, frustrating soul, but all characters are well written.  Her word choice was gorgeous and I wanted to swoon because even if you don’t like fantasy or love stories you have to read this book just for THE WORDS.  It’s so lovely, really, I’m […]

Empty, that is, except for a skinny girl wrapped in a threadbare shawl. “Matches, mister?” she asks, and just like that, Jack’s life collides with one of Hans Christian Andersen’s grimmest tales. And just when he has almost convinced himself […]

Drawn into a Fiery Tower of Princesses and Myth – #IMWAYR

Drawn into a Fiery Tower of Princesses and Myth – #IMWAYR

It’s Monday, What are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.  It’s a great way to catch up on all the literary ins-and-outs of the previous week, and see what everyone is up to.  Check out this week’s linkup! It’s been a good/bad reading week. I finished off both The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo early last week.  Those were good. Still trudging through Myth in Human History by The Great Courses – the next lecture is about the myth surrounding Isis and Osiris, which is one of the few Egyptian myths I know so […]
