April Wrap Up // Anne Shirley, Adventures, and All That Jazz.

April Wrap Up // Anne Shirley, Adventures, and All That Jazz.

Since I just got back from my European adventures Saturday night, this is going to be short and sweet because my loves, I am back to work today and I need to majorly get back into work mode.  Trust me, I am 100% still soaking at Blue Lagoon. In spirit. I meant to tone it down with April’s haul, but, haha, I am hilarious.  I found SALES at Barnes & Noble!  I am hopeless. Y’all should see the condition of my bookcase.  It’s a mess.                  So OF COURSE after Anne of the Island, I HAD to get the […]

Character Profiles and Why They Are Amazing

Character Profiles and Why They Are Amazing

I write better when I use character profiles. I find it so, so easy to dive head first into a WIP and lose track of the details.  In Strange, one of my beta readers circled passages asking “is she fourteen or fifteen” and “I thought Ariella had brown eyes?” When you’re working with a lot of different characters, base details like this are easy to lose if they’re not particularly important to the story.  Should I have caught those details while drafting?  Yes.  But with a character profile, at least I have a frame of reference. So… you want to make […]

March Wrap Up

March Wrap Up

My loves, I am exhausted.  February and March are always difficult months for me, with many thanks to the glorious New England weather.  I can only do so much with grey skies and snowstorms, you know?  This month’s wrap up is going to be brief – mostly just to say hi and let you know what’s been going on in my library these days and see how you all are doing! My haul was pretty low key this month, which is fine!  I didn’t go out and buy any of these except Children of Blood and Bone – all pre-orders, ARCs […]

February Wrap Up

February Wrap Up

February is always the fastest month of the year.  Maybe it’s because there’s so much going on, maybe it’s because it’s technically the shortest month… I don’t know!  But here we are again at the end of it! For all you beautiful people reading this, I hope you all had an amazing Valentine’s Day, Lunar New Year, President’s Day – the whole shebang.  And all the holidays I missed.  February is ripe with holidays! My bookishness wasn’t as ambitious this month as January, but I loved all the books I got through.  It was just slow going.  February hits me hard as […]

January Wrap Up

January Wrap Up

2018 is off to a roaring start, n’est pas, mes chers?  I’ve not been subtle about how much 2017 stunk for me, so I’m absolutely thrilled with the way January has unwound so far.  I hope everyone else has had a good start, too! I ended up with quite a good haul this month – after a slow December on NetGalley, I ended up being granted 5 books.  I timed my requests so that there’s nothing immediate, so reading them shouldn’t be a challenge (The Phantom Tree releases in August!). I believe there’s a lot of little ones in this set… Blood Will […]

15 Minute Ficlet Prompt: “Perceive”

15 Minute Ficlet Prompt: “Perceive”

Fifteen Minute Ficlets (#15MF) is a weekly Sunday writing challenge hosted here on The Literary Phoenix.  Based on a single word, write a short story in fifteen minutes.  The word count is irrelevant.  Just write your heart out for 15 minutes and be inspired by the word.  You never know what you’ll end up with! “Perceive” verb 1. become aware or conscious of (something); come to realize or understand. 2. interpret or look on (someone or something) in a particular way; regard as. The Freak The first day of fifth grade was difficult for Charlotte. Her locker was located in a […]
