Observation: Adults Should Have More Silly Fun

Observation: Adults Should Have More Silly Fun

I miss the subtle nuances of Halloween that we got to enjoy as children. This is not going to be a bookish post, even though it comes from a bookish prompt.  It’s also probably a therapist’s textbook example of a fixation on childhood and rebellion against established society and some crap like that… but I don’t care.  Yay!  Are you ready for a salty rant? So, I understand that as an adult, I can go out and buy an entire bag of Kit-Kats and call it Halloween, but wasn’t trick-or-treating fun?  I miss dressing up and being silly.  It was […]

Hello, I Read Books

Hello, I Read Books

Posted October 12, 2018 in Memes // 8 Comments

Have you ever found yourself faced with explaining your love of books to a non-reader? I feel like sometimes being a reader is like having this weird, underground hobby.  Most people don’t walk around talking about “OMG I just read this amazing book”.  It’s not like movies where people talk about what they saw last weekend, or people shouting out the current Sox score throughout the work day.  Reading is a private thing. So… how do you turn the conversation to your passion?  Do you even try? For myself, there are two ways to all about books (short of being […]

A Very Brief History of the Horror Genre

A Very Brief History of the Horror Genre

One of my best friends loves horror. Every Halloween, he likes to dress up as Michael Myers from the Halloween movie.  When he does this, he’s totally in character and creepy.  You can’t ask the guy where the extra bags of candy are because he just stares at you behind that creepy mask and says… nothing… ever.  Until Halloween is over. Universally, I think a few things come to […]

The Stats Problem

The Stats Problem

I am one of those bloggers that can’t stop looking at her stats. Really.  When I click to get to my dashboard, I go though the main site and click the bar graph for stats on my WordPress top bar to get to the backend stuff.  Every single time I visit my blog, whether to reply to comments, update something behind the scenes, or write a new post… I look at my stats. It’s a terrible habit, but one I’m not alone in doing. I think that our obsession with statistics directly correlates with our cultural need to define our success […]

The Selection Debacle: A Timeless Reminder to Be Respectful to Each Other

The Selection Debacle: A Timeless Reminder to Be Respectful to Each Other

How many of you remember The Great Selection Debacle of 2012? I think all this probably happened before many folks in my corner started book blogging, but I’m sure there’s a handful of you who have heard about it.  I bring this up again not because of any particular incident, nor because I think people should burn everything written by Kiera Cass (I’ve read the first three Selection books twice).  I bring it up because I think it’s important to remember the effects of disrespecting one another’s place in this community. So gather ’round, loves.  Pull up a chair and get […]
