Food is central to the community in Raya and the Last Dragon. Boun’s Shrimporeum serves the crew for their adventure, but it’s not just his delicious food that ties together these characters from all walks of life. Food is something that brings us comfort. It is the way we share our culture, show appreciation for or guests, and care for our loved ones. When Sisu chooses food as her goodwill gift, it is symbolic. As we wrap up this session of Disney Dining, I hope that each of you are able to share a heartfelt meal with a loved one […]

Up until the last couple years, I would call The Princess and the Frog an under appreciated Disney animated film. The story is fun, there’s a strong woman playing the princess (no submissive girls in this one) and the music is fantastic. Sometime in the last few years, the Disney executives realized they only had one Black princess and suddenly Tiana was everywhere! I’m happy she’s finally being appreciated but I wish the circumstances had been different – she should have been appreciated from day one, not tokenized. Also? She’s lonely. We need more Black princesses! One of the many […]

Today’s post title is brought to you from Aladdin (1992). The song “One Jump Ahead” was composed by Alan Menken and Tim Rice. This song, the second in the animated feature, is about Aladdin’s struggle as one of the poor in Agrabah. It’s a scene-setting song – we meet Aladdin and Abu and the marketplace guards and learn a bit about life in the Agrabah market – and we also get to see a little of our hero’s character. Even though Aladdin is so poor he can’t afford to buy food (he steals it, as we watch through this entire […]

We’re back to dining posts at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida! In the series we started earlier this year, we started introducing a few more quick service restaurants and stops. I’m excited to say we are going to continue that trend in the next several dining posts. To make it a little more interesting, I’ve planned the rest of the Disney 2022 series so the dining posts fall every other post, allowing a bit of variety in these travel posts. I’m a little bit ahead in posting, so I’d like to apologize if this feels like old […]

I can’t believe this series has gotten to six posts. And it’s nowhere near done! There’s so many places to eat in Disney – so much table dining, and we’ve barely touched quick service… and snacks! There’s so much to talk about, so much to try. I love it, though. Disney is my favorite place to eat because with a couple exceptions, the food is going to be amazing. And it’s never strictly bad. There’s such a variety of places to eat, so many cuisines…. Dining at Disney is probably my favorite part of a Disney trip. Sure, the atmosphere […]
