The Song Request Book Tag

The Song Request Book Tag

I’ve basically decided that August is the month of “Catching up on Tags from Loretta”.  So here’s another one, and listen, I am NOT Umbridge in this one, okay? Honestly I’m still a little traumatized. The Song Request Book Tag is all about music and books and I love that.  Also, the rules of this one are kind of fun, and part of the game is to listen to the challenger’s music, so I’d like to apologize in advance to the people I tag because even as I type this intro I have IDEAS and they may be a bit… eclectic. […]

My Most Disappointing Reads of 2017

My Most Disappointing Reads of 2017

A couple weeks ago, I highlighted my favorite books I read this year.  Every one of them was an excellent, well-written, intriguing read.  Unfortunately, not all books can be perfect and meet all our expectations.  What follows is a list of the books I read this year that didn’t live up to my expectations and why. By no means does this mean you shouldn’t read these books!  Just because I thought a book fell short, doesn’t mean others wouldn’t completely and totally love it.  In fact, at least two books on this list are very popular on Goodreads, so by […]

Drawn Away by Holly Bennett

Drawn Away by Holly Bennett

I was very much looking forward to Drawn Away.  It has a stunning cover and an interesting concept.  Unfortunately, this book was not for me. Characters I found Klara, Jack, and Lucy all a bit flat as characters.  They were written with variety and individual backgrounds and hobbies – Lucy had her year as a homeless teen whereas Jack had his diabetes.  Klara was the little Match Girl, and we more or less know her story. However, they did not feel deep.  It may have been the length of the chapters (some only a page), but I felt like we really […]

February Round Up!

February Round Up!

Well folks, that’s two months down, ten more to go.  How’s the TBR pile going? February was a pretty bookish month for me, both regarding the incoming and the outgoing novels!  Firstly, I received my first ARC-for-review in February!   Drawn Away by Holly Bennett One minute Jack’s in math class. The next, he’s on a dark, cobblestoned, empty street. Empty, that is, except for a skinny girl wrapped in a threadbare shawl. “Matches, mister?” she asks, and just like that, Jack’s life collides with one of Hans Christian Andersen’s grimmest tales. And just when he has almost convinced himself […]

Drawn into a Fiery Tower of Princesses and Myth – #IMWAYR

Drawn into a Fiery Tower of Princesses and Myth – #IMWAYR

It’s Monday, What are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.  It’s a great way to catch up on all the literary ins-and-outs of the previous week, and see what everyone is up to.  Check out this week’s linkup! It’s been a good/bad reading week. I finished off both The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo early last week.  Those were good. Still trudging through Myth in Human History by The Great Courses – the next lecture is about the myth surrounding Isis and Osiris, which is one of the few Egyptian myths I know so […]
