12 Books That Kept Me Reading Even When 2020 Was Too Much

I have never faced a reading slump quite like the year 2020. Everyone has their reasons for not meeting personal goals and reading challenges last year.  Early on, there was this expectation that being stuck-at-home was going to mean loads of reading, but somehow, that didn’t pan out.  I’ll tell you what I did a lot of in 2020, and that is video games.  Over 400 hours logged on Animal Crossing and I got Pokemon Sword at the end of the year so that started usurping a bunch of my time as well. Reading, though?  Reading started to feel like a […]

It’s that annual wrap up time of year again! When I set up the placeholder for this post a year ago and called it “Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles” I had no idea how true that would ring.  I know I was thinking about following through on my personal reading challenge as well as Start On Your Shelfathon… but y’all?  2020 has been rife with reading challenges.  And blogging hurdles.  I am plum worn out. Usually, I use this post to share Goodread’s “My Year In Books”.  This year, I’m going to pull a little data from that page, but they’ve stripped […]

But not without one last wrap up, and then we can say adieu, right?  So lets do this. All the things I’ve been reading I allowed myself to have a fairly light reading month in December.  I read some […]

If I hadn’t gotten Even The Darkest Stars in a Fairyloot box, I would never have read it.  In fact, I doubt I would have heard of it.  And that would have been a tragedy because it’s one of the best books I’ve read all year and I loved it. What made Even The Darkest Stars shine so brightly was its setting.  The magic was good, the characters were good, the plot was good, but the setting and the atmosphere were AMAZING.  10/5 stars, honestly.  I felt like I was there climbing the mountain with Kamzin, hands numb and nails cracked and bleeding […]

Election Nerves, Reading Slowly, & Pretty Leaves – My October Wrap Up!

And just like that, my favorite month of the year is over.  We’re dipping into winter up here in New England – what’s left of the beautiful leaves have faded to brown, but most the trees are skeleton bare.  The air is chilly and just a few days ago, we had our first snow frosting. And so, here we are.  To quote Game of Thrones… winter is coming. Overall, it was a good month.  I had a lot more interactivity than I’m used to, particular for this year.  We had the opportunity at the beginning of the month to connect with […]
