12 Books That Kept Me Reading Even When 2020 Was Too Much

12 Books That Kept Me Reading Even When 2020 Was Too Much

I have never faced a reading slump quite like the year 2020. Everyone has their reasons for not meeting personal goals and reading challenges last year.  Early on, there was this expectation that being stuck-at-home was going to mean loads of reading, but somehow, that didn’t pan out.  I’ll tell you what I did a lot of in 2020, and that is video games.  Over 400 hours logged on Animal Crossing and I got Pokemon Sword at the end of the year so that started usurping a bunch of my time as well. Reading, though?  Reading started to feel like a […]

2020 in Review: Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles

It’s that annual wrap up time of year again! When I set up the placeholder for this post a year ago and called it “Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles” I had no idea how true that would ring.  I know I was thinking about following through on my personal reading challenge as well as Start On Your Shelfathon… but y’all?  2020 has been rife with reading challenges.  And blogging hurdles.  I am plum worn out. Hello beautiful people, and happy September?  I LOVE this time of year!  Since we didn’t go on any vacations this year, I saved up my precious paid-time-off and put it all into the fall because there’s no time I’d rather sleep in and linger lazily outdoors.  Summer is a little too warm for my comfort – but autumn?  Autumn in New England is one of the most beautiful things. And with the changing leaves and the smell of backyard campfires in the air, I’m doing my absolute best to remain positive.  The loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg hit me hard […]

So Long Sweet Summer – My August Wrap Up

So Long Sweet Summer – My August Wrap Up

I cannot tell you all how grateful I am that the heat has finally broken here in New England.  In line with the coming storm season, we’ve had either sunny days or massive thunderstorms and nothing in between, and I am LIVING for it.  I love thunderstorm season – there’s something to that electricity that makes me feel so alive. Also, feeling grateful because a massive might-as-well-be-a-whole-tree branch missed falling on our house by about six feet.  With a little help from the wind we avoided some serious damage – the thing took down all the saplings in its wake […]

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from NetGalley and Wednesday Books in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. You know those books where you can’t really pinpoint what was special about it, only that you were utterly absorbed by the language and the world and you breathed in the story as though it was as essential as oxygen itself?  That is how I feel about Fable. In this world of critical reading, I can’t say that there was a lot of diversity in Fable.  I don’t think […]
