The summer before eighth grade, my parents decided I was no longer going to be reading the Harry Potter books. It was too late for books one through four, which were already on my shelf.  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix wasn’t going to be published for another year, but Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was due to make its cinematic debut that November.  My friends and I had already started talking about it – we went to the midnight showing of the first movie when it was in theatres and had a wonderful time.  But now, […]

Opinion: Romance Makes the LEAST Intriguing Dystopia Plot

Opinion: Romance Makes the LEAST Intriguing Dystopia Plot

I’ve always loved dystopian worlds, for as long as I remember.  It’s intriguing to see the world redrafting to an “ideal” state… and then watch it fall apart.  Over the years I’ve fallen in love with dystopian novels (Fahrenheit 451, Feed, The Hunger Games) and movies (The Island is my absolute favorite, but themes from The Matrix have stuck with me just as strongly) and as I get older, I find… I’m still not sick of this genre. If there are inaccuracies in any if my comparisons, I beseech you to let me know so I can correct them. Thanks! I LOVE Ray Bradbury’s work and am constantly flummoxed by the choices made in adapting these books to film. There’s always a need to modernize these works and filmmakers delight in beefing up the tech that is featured in the world. It’s like the film industry is […]

Mailbox Mondays are hosted by the ladies over on the Mailbox Monday blog.  Hop on over to see the rest of today’s linkups and show them some love! Hello my loves!  Happy Monday!  I hope everybody got through the weekend alright – I know for some of us, it’s been a struggle… physically… emotionally… politically…. But I digress! I know last week I said I was done ordering hard copy books for a while, but last Wednesday, I panicked a little bit.  This was part “state of the world” and part “I’ve just started reading 1984“.  In my frenzied stupor, I’ve […]
