Adults Need To Stop Judging Teens in YA Books – A Plea To Stop Calling Characters “Immature” or “Too Young”

Adults Need To Stop Judging Teens in YA Books – A Plea To Stop Calling Characters “Immature” or “Too Young”

I realize the hypocrisy in writing this post. I am a 30 y/o who reads mostly YA books, and yes, I do dig into the characters.  I am imperfect.  But I am trying to stop myself – I am trying to be better.  Because an accurate teen experience should exist in YA books.  It’s something I think about on-and-off, particularly when I find myself feeling like characters are young.  And we need to talk about it. Teens should be allowed to be young.  To be immature.  To be emotional and dramatic.  To be teens. A lot of YA books have teen […]

Hi everyone. I do just want to take a sec and address the title of this post, because it’s been months and the cops who killed her have not been brought to justice.  Her family continues to suffer. If you haven’t already signed the petition for Breonna, please take a second to do so now. Additionally, if you are able to contribute, please consider donating to her family’s GoFundMe.  Every dollar makes a difference, and money in this fund not only supports her family but also helps pay for the legal fees incurred in continuing to fight for justice for […]

January is the month that lasts forever. Here in the northern hemisphere, January is the first full month of really, really cold.  Well, at least it is in Massachusetts.  I’m looking forward to the thaw – I’m tired of shivering and numb fingers.  Grateful to have a home and a place with heat, so I try to focus on life’s small blessings instead of the single digit temperatures. I am not a winter person, I swear. But there’s been a lot of things going on this month, so that can also be exciting! The Monthly Haul Um. So.  I tripped […]

Full Tilt by Neal Schusterman

I know a lot of people really like Neal Schusterman. He’s one of those authors I’ve had on my TBR for years, but for one reason or another, I just haven’t read yet. Trust me, it’s not for lack of desire – I actually have a hardcopy of Scythe on my shelf I got on a good special a couple years ago that simply hasn’t popped out of the TBR Jar yet. I got my copy of Full Tilt for $3 on Audible a couple years ago, and it’s been sitting on my audiobook TBR ever since. In fact, I have no […]
