Braggable Books (And Other Times When Readers Can Be A Bit Pretentious).

Braggable Books (And Other Times When Readers Can Be A Bit Pretentious).

Instead of focusing on books for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by the fabulous Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl), I want to focus on us readers. I have been told by non-readers that sometimes, when I talk about my reading… I come off as a bit pretentious.  Has anyone else ever had this problem?  When we genuinely love what we do and the books we read, but sometimes blur the line between excited sharing and being a bit of a snob? Here are a few times where people have called me out: In discussing Game of Thrones, I throw […]

April Wrap Up // Anne Shirley, Adventures, and All That Jazz.

April Wrap Up // Anne Shirley, Adventures, and All That Jazz.

Since I just got back from my European adventures Saturday night, this is going to be short and sweet because my loves, I am back to work today and I need to majorly get back into work mode.  Trust me, I am 100% still soaking at Blue Lagoon. In spirit. I meant to tone it down with April’s haul, but, haha, I am hilarious.  I found SALES at Barnes & Noble!  I am hopeless. Y’all should see the condition of my bookcase.  It’s a mess.                  So OF COURSE after Anne of the Island, I HAD to get the […]

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Every time I read this book, I get a little something different from it. My first read was a sheer feat of determination:  I was eleven, and it was a huge book.  And an adult book.  I felt like a rock star. The second time, I fell in love with the story.  The richness of the world Margaret Mitchell presents is astounding. The third time, I fell in love with Scarlett.  Scarlett is the immense character of spirit and soul, with an unbreakable determination and strength.  I envied her strong shoulders for bearing the burdens she did, and her ability to say […]

Magic & Life & Happy Weekend, Y’all!

Magic & Life & Happy Weekend, Y’all!

I just felt like popping in and saying hi.  Some of my favorite posts to read on other peoples’ blogs are the ones where it’s like sitting down and having a cup of tea with an old friend.  I know I have my March Wrap Up coming tomorrow, which includes some of those things anyway, but I just felt like popping in. So.  Hi!  How are you all today? I am luxuriating in a rare Sunday, where my husband is off on Adventures in Skiing and I am cozy at home, able to do as I please.  To […]

A Collection of Bookish Quotes

A Collection of Bookish Quotes

I often find comfort in books.  Whether it’s a lighthearted jab or deep words of wisdom, or a moment of inspiration… books have a lot of things to say about life and love and humor and hope. Today, I’m going to share a few favorites with you. <3 “The thing about growing up with Fred and George,” said Ginny thoughtfully, “is that you sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” ― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince “Even a book can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and when that happens, you blame the hands, but […]

Books I Could Re-read Forever

Books I Could Re-read Forever

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my Crossing booklist! In The Queen of the Tearling, people were allowed to take a maximum of ten books with them to the new world.  Books, while culturally important and sentimental, are heavy and technically unnecessary unless they contained medical information… so each passenger was allowed a maximum of ten.  These are fiction, or books that were close to peoples’ hearts.  Not a desert island booklist – these books did not need to have any practical value. You’ll be delighted to hear that in Queen of the Tearling, all 7 Harry Potter books made the Crossing.  Mine only has […]
