The summer before eighth grade, my parents decided I was no longer going to be reading the Harry Potter books. It was too late for books one through four, which were already on my shelf.  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix wasn’t going to be published for another year, but Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was due to make its cinematic debut that November.  My friends and I had already started talking about it – we went to the midnight showing of the first movie when it was in theatres and had a wonderful time.  But now, […]

Adults Need To Stop Judging Teens in YA Books – A Plea To Stop Calling Characters “Immature” or “Too Young”

I realize the hypocrisy in writing this post. I am a 30 y/o who reads mostly YA books, and yes, I do dig into the characters.  I am imperfect.  But I am trying to stop myself – I am trying to be better.  Because an accurate teen experience should exist in YA books.  It’s something I think about on-and-off, particularly when I find myself feeling like characters are young.  And we need to talk about it. Teens should be allowed to be young.  To be immature.  To be emotional and dramatic.  To be teens. A lot of YA books have teen […]

This tag is a mash up of two different The Greatest Showman book tags – shout out to both Irish Reader and Rachel Rexds! The Greatest Showman […]

Now, I’ve got to admit.  I’m not as crazy all over the WHO WOULD YOU BE?! quizzes as I was when I was younger.  When I was younger, there was Quizilla, and I made these quizzes.  But every once in a while, Twitter lures me into another “these questions don’t even make sense, BUT I AM ANSWERING THEM” quiz so obviously I had to jump on board when Loretta created this tag! If you ever find yourself having a character-related identity crisis… look no further!  All the quizzes your heart could desire from your favorite, popular series! RULES: Take all the quizzes […]

You know, I have a lot of saved tags in my drafts, and they’re all super fun, so I feel like it’s time to do more than one tag a month.  🙂 For my readers in the United States, I hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July last week!  We didn’t do anything much (we usually don’t) but it’s always lovely to have a day off!  The only thing I miss about the Fourth of July celebrations in my childhood is the fireworks, but alas, personal fireworks are illegal in the state of Massachusetts, so…. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Today’s tag comes from […]
