The Books Under My Pillow

When you were a kid, did you ever fall asleep reading a book?  Ever tuck a good book under your pillow to sneak out and read after your parents out you to bed?  I did, and that’s what today’s Book Blogger Hop is all about. When I was a little girl, my family lived in a small house in a rural community.  We were poor, I’ll just come right out and say it.  My parents did their best, but there were certainly times that we struggled to make ends meet.  I was the princess of hand-me-down clothes, fed through the […]

Happy 37th* birthday, Harry Potter! *37, because in 2014 Rowling revealed he was almost 34.  I’M ON TOP OF THIS STUFF, GUYS! Harry Potter has been one of the biggest literary influences of my life.  Harry gave me something to talk about to friends, Harry taught me grammar, Harry taught me to fight for what I believe in.  This is a story a lot of people have shared, so I’ll spare the HARRY POTTER IS MY LIFE GUYZ! sappy story, because I bet a lot of you share it. In honor of Harry Potter’s birthday this year (which is also […]

February Round Up!

Well folks, that’s two months down, ten more to go.  How’s the TBR pile going? February was a pretty bookish month for me, both regarding the incoming and the outgoing novels!  Firstly, I received my first ARC-for-review in February! Drawn Away by Holly Bennett One minute Jack’s in math class. The next, he’s on a dark, cobblestoned, empty street. Empty, that is, except for a skinny girl wrapped in a threadbare shawl. “Matches, mister?” she asks, and just like that, Jack’s life collides with one of Hans Christian Andersen’s grimmest tales. And just when he has almost convinced himself it […]

It’s Monday, What are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.  It’s a great way to catch up on all the literary ins-and-outs of the previous week, and see what everyone is up to.  Check out this week’s linkup! Oh. My. Goodness. Lets start with the little ones this week, shall we? In Myth in Human History by the Great Courses we’ve moved out of creation myths and covered flood myths and myths of the gods.  The next several lessons are about goddesses. My favorite myth this week was Asian one (I’m sorry, I don’t recall the exact culture) about a brother […]

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

I love this book.  Either by audio or hardcopy, I think I visit it at least once a year.  As such, it’ll probably be reviewed many times.  Every read is different, after all. The third year is when the trio start to come into their own and become more complex as characters.  Harry is re-affronted with his parents’ deaths in a new and raw way, Ron begins to fight for his own happiness – whether that’s in defense of his pets or himself – and Hermione’s reaction to Harry’s Firebolt and Divination shows her less tolerant side.  We also get the […]
