May NerdyPost Unboxing – The Weasleys (SPOILERS!)

May NerdyPost Unboxing – The Weasleys (SPOILERS!)

Another month of Nerdy Post!  For those who haven’t popped over for my other Nerdy Post unboxing, Nerdy Post is a monthly subscription box that centers around a theme.  There are different tiers of box that cost different amounts, depending upon what you want to receive. Nerdy Post is a box that does not include a book.  The themes can be anything from pop culture.  Alexis curates boxes that are around bookish themes, but she’s also done television and cinema. The May theme was the Weasleys!  Nerdy Post has done a Harry Potter box before, but this is the first time […]

10 Book to Movie Adaptations I Actually LOVED

10 Book to Movie Adaptations I Actually LOVED

Most of us bookish sorts talk about film adaptations with contempt.  We see the stories we know and love adapted into monstrosities that make our hearts ache and misrepresent everything we love to the non-reading public.  Believe me, I can relate.  I watched this happen with particular favorites, like Ready Player One and The Dark Tower. All that said, I’ve also come across several book-related films that I have particularly enjoyed.  Some of these weren’t even particularly faithful adaptations… but they managed to retain (for me) the spirit of the book and brought to life characters I adored.  In the bookish community, […]

My OTP Narrator/Book Matches

My OTP Narrator/Book Matches

I am a HUGE audiobook listener – more than 2/3 of my reading the last two years has been via audiobooks.  So color me surprised when I went to review my “read by” section of my review archive, only to discover that I’ve only listened to a handful of narrators a couple times.  This post was supposed to be about ten amazing narrators, but instead, I’m giving you something else. One of the audiobook pain points that came up for the post a couple weeks ago was that a bad narrator ruins a book.  I am 100% on board with this […]

My Ten Favorite Book Subjects (The Data Speaks!)

My Ten Favorite Book Subjects (The Data Speaks!)

Hi all! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about the longest books you’ve ever read.  While this is a great topic, it’s very similar to The Mountain Book Tag which I did earlier this year, so rather than repeat content, I thought I’d bring you a different top ten… one of my very own. This week, I want to talk about my top 10 book tags!  This isn’t in regard to Book Tags in the traditional sense… these are subject tags I use on my LibraryThing account.  For all the books I’ve read, I go through and tag them with […]

What’s America’s Favorite, Iconic Book?

What’s America’s Favorite, Iconic Book?

Have you guys heard about this “Great American Read” television show?  If you use the Goodreads web platform, it’s difficult to miss – the ad has been plastered all over mine for a couple months. There’s a lot of interesting books on this list, although I can’t imagine choosing just one book for an entire country.  PBS came up with 100 books for this competition, a mixture of popular modern reads and timeless classics.  I’ve read 37, how many have you read? 1984 by George Orwell ✓ A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole X A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving X A Separate […]

Popular Books That Lived Up to the Hype

Popular Books That Lived Up to the Hype

Who among us haven’t seen books basically go viral and think “I should read that because everyone else is reading it!”?  While this can be super awesome and really get some great exposure for new books, this can also be a trap.  What if the book is just sort of okay?  What if you’ve been dreaming about this really cool-sounding plot and suddenly the book blows up because “OMG, Balthasar is suuuuuuch a hunk!”  but that’s not what you’re going into the book for and what if the plot is actually terrible and… just… ack! Hyped books can be exciting, and […]
