The Art of Writing a Negative Review

The Art of Writing a Negative Review

I have no qualms about writing a negative review.  Even for an ARC. I think this is something a lot of bloggers struggle with.  In the blogging community, your image is everything.  You don’t want to be perceived as a Debbie Downer about books all the time, because who wants to read such negativity day after day.  Trust me, if people want to be bummed out, they can just pop over to the news. Nonetheless, I believe it’s important to have a variety of book quality on your blog.  Frankly speaking, it adds to your credibility.  Nobody, nobody likes every book […]

2018: My Year In Books

2018: My Year In Books

Annual round up time!  I like this time of year because it’s like this amazing gallery of all the different worlds I’ve visited and the people I’ve meant.  Okay, so granted, all these people and places are fictional, but books are still the sort of thing that make me happy, so taking a brief revisit is always fun. Without further ado, I present: October. Remember last month when I only hauled two books?  Yeah, that was adorable.  The beginning of October typical means a […]

Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty

Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty

I really want to call bullshit on this book. Okay, okay, don’t get me wrong.  His discussion about of mindfulness, meditation, and visualization are all important things.  The psychological aspects are interesting, and I agree with that part of it.  It’s the memoir-aspects that I’m not buying. James R. Doty, apparently, got everything he wanted through luck, obstinance, and visualization.  Take his college experience – he didn’t even know how to GET into college, then by complete coincidence a girl hands him an application.  He fills it out and sends it without an application fee.  He gets accepted.  He goes […]
