Election Nerves, Reading Slowly, & Pretty Leaves – My October Wrap Up!

And just like that, my favorite month of the year is over.  We’re dipping into winter up here in New England – what’s left of the beautiful leaves have faded to brown, but most the trees are skeleton bare.  The air is chilly and just a few days ago, we had our first snow frosting. And so, here we are.  To quote Game of Thrones… winter is coming. Overall, it was a good month.  I had a lot more interactivity than I’m used to, particular for this year.  We had the opportunity at the beginning of the month to connect with […]

10 Books Outside of my Comfort Zone (That I Really Liked!) – #TopTenTuesday

I have a pretty specific set of books I like to read: YA Fantasy.  Sometimes I will shift from one of these – Adult Fantasy! YA Contemporary!  But my favorite is still YA Fantasy.  However, shifting far enough out of this genre to get into something really different?  So rare.  A book really need to catch my attention.  In fact? Half the time, even if it does, I’ll add it to my TBR and when it gets to the front of the line, I’ll say “eh no”. It’s that time again! Every year in mid-late June, I like to participate in the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag.  It’s a bit of an institution here in the bookish community – I see it on bookstagram, booktube, and the book blogs alike.  It’s a great time to check in and see where I’m at, and to share some favorites with you. Every year, I try a choose a different blogger from the previous year to steal the tag from.  This year, I’ll be using the set of questions from Scorpio Book Dreams.  If you haven’t checked out Rachael’s blog […]

Ancient Ruins & an Unexpected Book: The March Wrap Up!

Y’all, I want to apologize in advance for the March and April wrap ups – Matt and I picked up the keys to our new apartment on Wednesday, so now we are 100% about moving, packing, unpacking, the works.  Nearly all my other posts for the next two months have been pre-scheduled, but the wrap ups I usually do the weekend before, because I think it’s important they’re fresh. The March and April wrap up are going to be missing some bits and pieces that take me a little while longer to go through and talk about, but I promise […]

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore

Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff by Christopher Moore

This book is hilarious.  It is also immensely sacrilegious.  Lamb looks at the story of Christ and acknowledges that there’s not a lot of conversation about the time between infancy and adulthood.  Have you ever noticed that nobody talks about that part of Jesus’s life? Levi-who-is-called-Biff takes the task into his own hands.  There’s swearing, a lot of sexual references, nods to other active religions from the time, and a lot of times that things surprised me into laughter. Anyway.  The thing to know about Lamb is that… if the idea of reading a humorous, crude, retelling of Jesus’s teenage-hood through the eyes […]
