Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In

If you’re like me and you read a lot of fantasy novels, then you know how cruel the world can be.  Most contemporary novels are fluffy or thrillers, but ultimately they are our world and we already live in it, like it or not.  Science fiction and fantasy?  Those are dark places, more often than not.  And while a lot of us would love to go to Hogwarts, I’m sure there are places we can all agree we’d rather not go to. Midworld The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, The Wind Through the […]

The Stranger Things Book Tag

The Stranger Things Book Tag

Who else is all sorts of excited for season three of Stranger Things?  How many more months? It feels like a small eternity! I came across this tag at Sarah Sunbeemz and I loved it.  It seemed like just the thing to help pass the time until the next season. 🙂 EPIC INTRO The opening sequence of Stranger Things is amazing and really grabs your attention. Name a book that grabbed your attention from the first page. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab.  I loved the opening line of that book: “Kell wore a very peculiar coat.” DUNGEONS & […]

January Wrap Up

January Wrap Up

2018 is off to a roaring start, n’est pas, mes chers?  I’ve not been subtle about how much 2017 stunk for me, so I’m absolutely thrilled with the way January has unwound so far.  I hope everyone else has had a good start, too! I ended up with quite a good haul this month – after a slow December on NetGalley, I ended up being granted 5 books.  I timed my requests so that there’s nothing immediate, so reading them shouldn’t be a challenge (The Phantom Tree releases in August!). I believe there’s a lot of little ones in this set… Blood Will […]

Logan’s Run by William F. Nolan & George Clayton Johnson

Logan’s Run by William F. Nolan & George Clayton Johnson

Aaaaghhhh I have such mixed feelings about this book. I remember watching Logan’s Run with my dad growing up and being fascinated by the dystopian world.  I came across this book randomly on my classic dystopia spree last year and decided to add it to my collection.  And in many ways, I’m glad I read it.  But it’s all hot/cold, yes/no with this book. 1.  Back in the 1960s, the world wasn’t brimming with dystopias.  In fact, science-fiction mostly regulated itself to the B-rated films even then.  Star Wars changed that in the 70s and Marvel again in the 2000s, but […]

Mailbox Monday & What’s New (#IMWAYR) – 1/29/17

Mailbox Monday & What’s New (#IMWAYR) – 1/29/17

Mailbox Mondays are hosted by the ladies over on the Mailbox Monday blog.  Hop on over to see the rest of today’s linkups and show them some love! Hello my loves!  Happy Monday!  I hope everybody got through the weekend alright – I know for some of us, it’s been a struggle… physically… emotionally… politically…. But I digress! I know last week I said I was done ordering hard copy books for a while, but last Wednesday, I panicked a little bit.  This was part “state of the world” and part “I’ve just started reading 1984“.  In my frenzied stupor, I’ve […]
