What’s America’s Favorite, Iconic Book?

What’s America’s Favorite, Iconic Book?

Have you guys heard about this “Great American Read” television show?  If you use the Goodreads web platform, it’s difficult to miss – the ad has been plastered all over mine for a couple months. There’s a lot of interesting books on this list, although I can’t imagine choosing just one book for an entire country.  PBS came up with 100 books for this competition, a mixture of popular modern reads and timeless classics.  I’ve read 37, how many have you read? 1984 by George Orwell ✓ A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole X A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving X A Separate […]

May Wrap Up

May Wrap Up

Sometime in the midst of May, summer arrived! When I left to go to Europe, there was a snowstorm on our tail, following us from New Hampshire all the way up to Manhattan. When I came back, it was 80-degrees outside!  That, in a brief description, is New England weather.  I love it and I hate it, but overall I’m really glad to see the sunshine. Mentally and emotionally, May is a difficult month for me.  I’ll talk about that a little more later, but lets start, as always, with the books!             The breakdown: ARCs/Freebies from Publishers: The Story Girl, LIFEL1K3, […]

Looking for Alaska by John Green

John Green fans traditionally mark Looking for Alaska as their favorite of his books. I’m sorry, folks, I just can’t concur.  Quite the contrary, Looking For Alaska is my least favorite of his books.  Up until Day Zero, I can’t stand the book.  Miles is such a prat, so selfish and unlikable.  The only thing that gets me through the first 60% of this novel are the famous last words, which I do find fascinating.  While reading any of his novels, you are confronted and fascinated by John Green’s quirky intelligence, and I love that in his books, but it’s not enough for […]

Top Ten Books I Read in 2011 (The Year I Started Keeping Track) – #TTT

For a lot of the younger bloggers, this may seem CRAZY, but an Excel spreadsheet used to be the PRIME way to keep track of the books you read.  I never used to keep track at all… I just read.  It wasn’t until 2011, when I was a senior in college (#old) and taking my last handful of writing courses that I was challenged to start keeping track of the books I read.  Actually, it wasn’t a challenge.  One of my writing professors was FLABBERGASTED we hadn’t kept track all this time, and it became an urgent assignment. I’m glad […]

Rainbow Book Tag

Rainbow Book Tag

Hello my lovelies! I’ve been sitting on the Rainbow Book Tag for a while and I decided it was time to bring it out and do it!  It’s hard not to want to do and love pretty things! I’ve snagged this tag from Reviews by Leevee, who is lovely and if you haven’t seen her blog already, you ought to check it out!  It looks like the creator of this tag is Terri @ Le Book Chronicles. Rules: It must be the dominant colour of the cover not the spine! If you do not own a book of a certain […]
