Why Do Authors Think It’s Okay To Viciously Murder Cats?!

So. Something that has been annoying be about books, especially horror books, for a while now. Why in the world do authors think it’s okay to do horrible things to cats!? The first time I noticed this and really catalogued it was back in 2017 when I was reading Anna Dressed in Blood.  Throughout the entire book there’s this lovely cat that has been helping protect the family in his own sweet, loyal, kitty cat way.  Then right there at the end, the demon eats the cat.  And we know this, because Kendare Blake described the cat’s tail hanging limply out of the demon’s mouth. Lots of people love Valentines Day.  They love the chocolate candies and fluttering candles and dew drop roses.  They love the batting eyelashes and sultry hushed voices over red wine.  I am so, so happy for those people… but I’ve never really been a Valentines Day person. Don’t get me wrong.  I will always accept chocolate.  But there’s a lot of pressure on this holiday on romantic gestures, and I just don’t want my relationship with my husband to hinge on that sort of pressure.  Neither of us are romantics, so both Valentines and our anniversary pass with a shrug […]

Happy December, loves. This is it.  This is the end of the year, and fresh with good memories and bad ones – joy and regret.  This is the final push to reach our reading and writing and blogging goals.  I’ll be doing a proper 2018 wrap up tomorrow, but suffice it to say that things went well this year, at least as far as reading goes! I hope everyone has had a marvelous holiday season!  For myself, I am exhausted and excited for the year to be swinging to an end.  The holidays are always delightful, but tiring, don’t you […]

So, a million years ago, my then-boyfriend sat me down and decided that for date night, we were going to watch Misery.  He told me it was based on a Stephen King book, like that would give it brownie points because it was based on a book.  I remember cringing a lot, and not loving the general flow of the movie – the actors, especially.  I remember being hooked. Fast forward about six years later to today.  I married that schmuck, and Misery popped up on my TBR.  I remembered the story being formidable, and I’ve read a lot of Stephen […]

5 Reasons You Should Read Stephen King (Even if You Don’t Like Horror)

In his book On Writing, Stephen King confessed: “By the time I was fourteen the nail in my wall would no longer support the weight of the rejection slips impaled upon it. I replaced the nail with a spike and went on writing.”   It’s strange to think one of the most beloved and prolific writers of our day was rejected time and again.  It’s similar to the motivational story behind Rowling’s quest to get Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone published… never give up.  King has infiltrated literature and screen sense his smashing (bloody?) success with Carrie and despite multiple threats to […]
