The Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag (2021 Edition)

Following tradition on this blog, the month of June means that at some point… we’ve got to do the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag.  I love this tag because it’s so widely used in the community… but also from a personal perspective, it’s a time capsule for me and my reading experience.  Every year I continue to nod to the posts of the past so I can see what has changed… and all the books I “really want to read” that I still haven’t read. This year’s post is coming a little bit late – I know, I’m sorry! – […]

Book Vs. Movie: Moxie (2021) (SPOILERS!)

Book Vs. Movie: Moxie (2021) (SPOILERS!)

When I read Moxie a couple years ago, I knew I was going to love it.  It was like that book was formulaically written for me, and I weep that it wasn’t available when I was a teen and struggling with and against so many of the things Mathieu addressed in the novel.  I was thrilled to hear Amy Poehler was getting involved and the film rights had been picked up.  Then I immediately forgot about it. Until Netflix dropped the movie. My loves, Netflix’s Moxie is not a movie to sleep on.  It’s a film that has a lot of energy, […]

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag: 2019 Edition

It’s that time again! Every year in mid-late June, I like to participate in the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag.  It’s a bit of an institution here in the bookish community – I see it on bookstagram, booktube, and the book blogs alike.  It’s a great time to check in and see where I’m at, and to share some favorites with you. Every year, I try a choose a different blogger from the previous year to steal the tag from.  This year, I’ll be using the set of questions from Scorpio Book Dreams.  If you haven’t checked out Rachael’s blog […]

I Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to Spend More Time in These Books

I Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to Spend More Time in These Books

As a reader, it’s easy to be left wanting MORE.  There are some worlds that are so broad and exciting, it’s easy to dive in and lose ourselves in companion novels and sequels and prequels.  I’m thinking of Tamora Pierce’s Tortall universe, or of Tolkien’s Middle Earth in particular, but you can even go beyond books and talk about Star Wars or Marvel.  These worlds are vast and delicious and have enough content that if you need more of their creator’s imagination, it’s easy to find. Then, there are standalones. I actually have no problem with standalone novels, but every […]

January Wrap Up: ALL the Books Hauled, a Little Editing, and New Year Blues <3

I set out into 2019 with the intention to slay my reading list, and I feel like I’m at a really good spot!  I think I’m finally settling back in after destroying myself in November.  The blogs fairly well scheduled ahead, and I’m reading my ARCs more or less as I get them. Things in my blogging and bookish world are good, y’all?  I really hope this is an omen for the rest of the year. OKAY SO. Remember how in my 2019 Blogging Goals post, I spoke about how I was instituting a book buying ban on myself for 2019? Well […]
