32 of My Favorite Sci-Fi Books by Female-Identifying Authors & Featuring Female-Identifying Characters to Celebrate Women’s History Month!

For women’s history month this year, I would like to focus on women in science fiction literature. We know incredible women like N.K. Jemisin and Ursula K. Le Guin who have changed and improved the genre. In 2020, there was nearly an equal amount of male and female authors publishing science fiction novels. There is still a lot of opportunity in the genre for greater overall gender diversity (non-binary authors only made up about 5% of publication). There is also a lot of opportunity to increase intersectionality in the genre. Still, I take what wins I can, and it’s very […]

It’s the middle of June, so of course, you know what that means!! IT’S MID-YEAR FREAK OUT BOOK TAG TIME AGAIN! I’ve done this post on my blog the last couple years, and I love checking back in and looking at my answers and revisiting old favorites.  For those new around here, the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag is one of those book blogging institutions, and if you haven’t already seen this a few times in the blogosphere, you’ll probably see it popping up in the next month.  And, with that said, feel free to steal this and do it […]

Book Vs. Movie: Nerve (SPOILERS!)

Book Vs. Movie: Nerve (SPOILERS!)

Nerve is one of those movies I’ve meant to watch for four years.  I remember being interested when I first saw trailers in 2015, and somehow, never got around to it.  I read the book last summer, and decided it was time. Going into the book, I had low expectations.  The little bit I knew about the book and the movie told me that they were very different.  Ultimately, I didn’t love Nerve as a book, but that didn’t stop me from watching the movie.  Because the core of the story – the game itself – was interesting.  And every once in […]

In Which I Actually Work on my WIP & Read Shakespeare Retellings: The August Wrap Up!

Hello beautiful people and welcome to the August wrap up! Heyyy remember when I said last month that my mental health was fairly poor, so I wanted to take a step back and try and re-center myself, etc. etc.?  Well, that didn’t happen until about halfway through August once I tore myself out of the temptation of readathons and had a whole weekend without books. It was pretty difficult for me, but I think it was needed.  I’d been reading so much that my escape was becoming a chore and I was going into overload.  You may not notice it […]

I added Nerve to my TBR when I first heard about the movie.  A YA Thriller?  These are pretty rare, especially when they’re done well, so count me in.  While I am the actual worst about seeing movies and haven’t seen the adaptation yet, everything I’ve read says that the book and film are two very different animals.  Having seen the trailer and now read the book, that seems very accurate.  It gives me hope for the movie. There were some definite issues with Nerve.  One of the things I’m trying to do in judging main characters is to step back and remind myself: just […]
