The Characters Who Made “Meh” Books Tolerable

The Characters Who Made “Meh” Books Tolerable

Over the last two years, I’ve read a lot of books, but not all of them have been gold medal winners.  Some have been *so* frustrating, and others the worst kind of predictable.  Love triangles, overflowing with cheese… I could go on. I do acknowledge, though, not all books are purely unenjoyable.  Sometimes, there will be characters that stand out even if I don’t like the story.  Here are some characters of note.      Sydney Sage Bloodlines by Richelle Mead Tess Legend by Marie Lu The Faeries So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchev Indie Crossed by Ally Condie Letty Hempstock […]

August Wrap Up! // Featuring: Lakes, Cakes, AND DOC BROWN!

Welcome Ladies & Gents, to the August Wrap Up! August has been a busy month!  For me, there’s been vacations and birthdays and a trip to the dentist (BLECH), and a solar eclipse!  I am so so proud of myself because I have posted every day this month!  I know a lot of people are heading back to school within a week, if they haven’t already.  Can you believe summer’s almost over?  SHEESH.  I think that we all have had a crazy month, so let’s get down to it!  EXCITING THINGS ARE AFOOT, MY PHOENIX FRIENDS. I haven’t done this meme for a while (I’m not even sure if it’s still properly active?) but I am reading the third book in a trilogy that is SERIOUSLY under appreciated.  Don’t believe me? Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard of the Théâtre Illuminata. *waits* The first book in this trilogy came out in 2009.  It’s about a girl named Beatrice Shakespeare who was raised by a theatre company and is friends with classic characters from Shakespeare and other plays of the time.  This trilogy is FILLED with puns, witty banter, and just plain cleverness and ought to be […]

So Silver Bright by Lisa Mantchev

Beatrice Shakespeare Smith is in a bit of a pickle.  Having just wrested Nate and herself from the hands of the angry sea witch Sedna, she has managed to learn the truth about her father… and make a sea witch really, really mad.  In the conclusion of this trilogy, Bertie is tasked with saving her family, saving her loves, saving herself, saving the theatre, and finishing her play.  That’s not too much to ask, right? Before we go any further, can we just take a moment to appreciate the cover? ALL THREE BOOKS IN THIS TRILOGY HAVE COVERS TO DIE […]
