April Showers Bring May… Showers? – The May Wrap Up!

I cannot TELL you guys how happy I am that all the chaos of May has died down and here we are on the brink of summer.  I’ve been working really hard to get back into the flow of things – moving really messes up my mental schedule.  I’ve got a buuunch of posts to write up in the next few weeks but we’re going to make it a good one. Plus, I’m just really excited that summer is rolling around.  I’m not normally a summer person, but New England weather is wonky and we’ve had says that are 35F following […]

I’ve never seen a book quite like Solving for M, and frankly?  It was fantastic. Solving for M is a very specific type of story.  It’s about Mika, a fifth-grader nervous about going to a new school and being in different classes than her best friend.  The story starts with Mika in her new math class, and the teacher tells them to bring a “math journal”.  And then he eats a candle.  The story in itself is about change and adaptation and courage.  I didn’t expect this book to confront cancer, especially not in Mika’s immediate family.  So not only do […]

Off-The-Grid Readathon III

What a time for a readathon. I generally LOVE the Off the Grid Readathons, because allowing myself to sit down for a weekend and skimp a little on chores and just read is such a treat for me.  And I particularly love this one, because the Off the Grid Readathon is practically rules-free.  All you need to do is spend a little time off your phone and read. This readathon in particular has been very successful for me in the past.  Last year, it helped me catch up  on my 2018 Debut Author Challenge books, and back in January it helped me […]

Ancient Ruins & an Unexpected Book: The March Wrap Up!

Y’all, I want to apologize in advance for the March and April wrap ups – Matt and I picked up the keys to our new apartment on Wednesday, so now we are 100% about moving, packing, unpacking, the works.  Nearly all my other posts for the next two months have been pre-scheduled, but the wrap ups I usually do the weekend before, because I think it’s important they’re fresh. The March and April wrap up are going to be missing some bits and pieces that take me a little while longer to go through and talk about, but I promise […]
