Opinion: Romance Makes the LEAST Intriguing Dystopia Plot

Opinion: Romance Makes the LEAST Intriguing Dystopia Plot

I’ve always loved dystopian worlds, for as long as I remember.  It’s intriguing to see the world redrafting to an “ideal” state… and then watch it fall apart.  Over the years I’ve fallen in love with dystopian novels (Fahrenheit 451, Feed, The Hunger Games) and movies (The Island is my absolute favorite, but themes from The Matrix have stuck with me just as strongly) and as I get older, I find… I’m still not sick of this genre. I’m not sick of it… but to my tastes, I’ve learned there are some plots that pull me in more than others. In January, I […]

Hello everyone!  Good morning and HAPPY JANUARY 4TH 2021.  I know that 2021 isn’t going to solve all our problems.  Or any of it, actually, but the illusion of hope and change and new beginnings are always nice tings to hold on to – it gives us a little bit o strength to pick ourselves up and persevere. *deep breath* 2021 y’all. But not without one last wrap up, and then we can say adieu, right?  So lets do this. All the things I’ve been reading I allowed myself to have a fairly light reading month in December.  I read some […]

Just in time for the end of the year, I’m bringing you another set of mini reviews!  This is the first year that I’ve had so many rereads of books I’ve read before and reviewed on the blog, since there was another set of mini reviews over the summer.  Sometimes, you just need to reread some books, you know? This time, I’m checking in quickly on three books I really liked in the past, as well as one that I’d only listened to previously and now I’m reading in hardcopy.  These are all bite-sized reviews and quick impressions (similar to […]

Election Nerves, Reading Slowly, & Pretty Leaves – My October Wrap Up!

And just like that, my favorite month of the year is over.  We’re dipping into winter up here in New England – what’s left of the beautiful leaves have faded to brown, but most the trees are skeleton bare.  The air is chilly and just a few days ago, we had our first snow frosting. And so, here we are.  To quote Game of Thrones… winter is coming. Overall, it was a good month.  I had a lot more interactivity than I’m used to, particular for this year.  We had the opportunity at the beginning of the month to connect with […]

Fall is Here! And So Is My September Wrap Up!

Fall is Here! And So Is My September Wrap Up!

Hello beautiful people, and happy September?  I LOVE this time of year!  Since we didn’t go on any vacations this year, I saved up my precious paid-time-off and put it all into the fall because there’s no time I’d rather sleep in and linger lazily outdoors.  Summer is a little too warm for my comfort – but autumn?  Autumn in New England is one of the most beautiful things. And with the changing leaves and the smell of backyard campfires in the air, I’m doing my absolute best to remain positive.  The loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg hit me hard […]
