Old Books: How Do They Age and Should We Still Read Them?

Old Books: How Do They Age and Should We Still Read Them?

One of the more cringe-worthy parts of reading classic literature is acknowledging that some of these “works of art” have not aged well.  Classics seem to be held up to a different set of expectations, but honestly?  We need to be able to have a dialogue about how some of the things that happen in these books are not okay. For the purposes of this post, I want to focus on the aspects of classic novels that are blatantly racist.  This isn’t to say that sexism or homophobia or lack of inclusion isn’t a problem – however, there’s already a lot […]

Turkey Coma: My November Wrap Up

Here in New England, fall danced a little in October, teasing us with early smells of woodsmoke and pumpkin pie – then BAM!  We went straight into wintery cold.  As I’m typing this wrap up, it is a horrifying 0F outside, which is dastardly cold in my personal opinion.  Really, I will never be happy with the extremely in my neck of the woods. THE JULY HAUL I had a good run at Barnes & Noble earlier in the month, and I’m beginning to clear out my audible credits as well. JULY READS WRITING LIFE In a touch of insanity, I decided to […]

So Many Classics! #MailboxMonday

Mailbox Mondays are hosted by the ladies over on the Mailbox Monday blog.  What finds have you added to your collection this week? GUYS GUYS GUYS. I am so excited because it’s been an ETERNITY since I bought books for myself. Like, real books.  Audible gives me two audiobooks a month, but those cannot grace my glorious bookshelves! AH SO EXCITED. But seriously, the reason I never buy books anymore is, frankly, I AM OUT OF ROOM.  It’s tragic.  I have 2.5 bookcases now in our small apartment, and the third is empty in the office that was supposed to be a […]
