Some Thoughts On Review Slamming, Especially When It’s Instigated By Authors

A few months ago, one of the authors I follow on Instagram posted a series of stories calling out what her followers suggested – and she agreed – were “ridiculous reviews”.  Some of these were the usual “I didn’t read the book, but 1-star” reviews.  Others were things “I didn’t like this one, but I’m still going to read the sequel” and “I loved this book, 3-stars”.  The whole thread was 20-30 stories long, and months later, I’m still thinking about it, because it didn’t sit well with me. Blog hopping has always been something of a challenge for me. It’s not because I don’t like the content y’all put out there.  I do!  I really do!  It just falls to the wayside sometimes.  Additionally, once you follow a certain amount of blogs, things start to all blend together and I get discouraged looking for content-based posts under all the memes.  Basically, I struggle with keeping up with the community and I’m curious as to how other bloggers do it.  What makes YOU follow a blog?  What types of posts do you look for? Hi loves! It’s be a little while since I did a blogger showcase, so I thought I’d share some more of my favorite book bloggers.  These folx have great content and are lovely human beings and I recommend their blogs highly! For an extra chocolate drizzle of fun and excitement, none of these book bloggers focus on a lot of mainstream titles, although they pepper them in from time to time.  If you want to broaden your reading horizons and have conversations about classics or the community, blogging as a hobby, and/or writing… I recommend these blogs! Thoughts Stained With […]

Boy oh boy am I glad I no longer work in customer service.  It is the least rewarding, most personally harmful job I’ve ever had, and I carry the damage from that job with me still, six years after getting out of the industry.  To all y’all who work in any aspect of the service industry – I love you, I appreciate you, and hang in there! As miserable as I was working retail, I still try to find silver linings.  I started in retail when I was eighteen because I needed money for college… and I got stuck there […]
