2020 in Review: Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles

It’s that annual wrap up time of year again! When I set up the placeholder for this post a year ago and called it “Reading Challenges and Blogging Hurdles” I had no idea how true that would ring.  I know I was thinking about following through on my personal reading challenge as well as Start On Your Shelfathon… but y’all?  2020 has been rife with reading challenges.  And blogging hurdles.  I am plum worn out. Usually, I use this post to share Goodread’s “My Year In Books”.  This year, I’m going to pull a little data from that page, but they’ve stripped […]

The Disney Book Tag

The Disney Book Tag

This one is a bit of an oldie, but as a Disney fan, it was definitely a tag I needed to feature on my blog.  Before I go too deeply into that, though, I do want to send out a lot of love to the folks who were furloughed and eventually laid off by Disney.  So many people give their loves to the parks and company and making magic happen, and it’s heartbreaking any time something like this happens.  While I understand the business need of downsizing when profits dip (side-eyeing the overpaid execs here, though), that doesn’t make it […]

Why Do Authors Think It’s Okay To Viciously Murder Cats?!

Why Do Authors Think It’s Okay To Viciously Murder Cats?!

So. Something that has been annoying be about books, especially horror books, for a while now. Why in the world do authors think it’s okay to do horrible things to cats!? The first time I noticed this and really catalogued it was back in 2017 when I was reading Anna Dressed in Blood.  Throughout the entire book there’s this lovely cat that has been helping protect the family in his own sweet, loyal, kitty cat way.  Then right there at the end, the demon eats the cat.  And we know this, because Kendare Blake described the cat’s tail hanging limply out of the demon’s mouth. […]

Finding My “New Normal” – The May 2020 Wrap Up

Finding My “New Normal” – The May 2020 Wrap Up

Posted June 8, 2020 in Checking In // 4 Comments

Good morning everyone and happy… June 8th! I thought about dropping this wrap up last Monday, but I wanted to give myself a little extra time to get my thoughts together as I usually write these posts the weekend before dropping them and who knows!  I may have finished an amazing book on May 31st! I’ve been personally doing a *little* better these days, and I think that comes with a better level of certainty and of course, more sunshine.  Like, literal sunshine.  I don’t do well in the spring.  While the world is still struggling, at least the outline […]

The Diviners by Libba Bray

The Diviners by Libba Bray

Some things I like when I read books: 1920s setting a ghostly, witchy feel people who are not what they seem multiple POVs a solid good vs. evil plot with lots of delicious twists. And, that’s pretty much what I got from The Diviners!  I already knew I enjoy Libba Bray’s writing after sparkling reviews for both A Great and Terrible Beauty and Beauty Queens.  I expected to enjoy The Diviners, but that doesn’t make me any less impressed by the way she manages to build so many intriguing, different worlds that still hold true to her voice and make me fall for […]
