Lots of people love Valentines Day.  They love the chocolate candies and fluttering candles and dew drop roses.  They love the batting eyelashes and sultry hushed voices over red wine.  I am so, so happy for those people… but I’ve never really been a Valentines Day person. Don’t get me wrong.  I will always accept chocolate.  But there’s a lot of pressure on this holiday on romantic gestures, and I just don’t want my relationship with my husband to hinge on that sort of pressure.  Neither of us are romantics, so both Valentines and our anniversary pass with a shrug […]

Book Vs. Movie – The Dark Tower (SPOILERS!)

It is a well-known fact that it’s extraordinarily difficult to watch a film adaptation of a story you love, especially when it’s as intricate as a high fantasy.  When I heard that a movie adaptation was being made of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, I was so excited.  Beyond excited – I was elated. Of course, the problem was – the more details that were released about the story, the less inclined I was to see it.  These things piled up and up until the very mention of The Dark Tower made me cringe.  Ultimate, I didn’t see it in theaters.  In […]

The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King

The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King

The next step of Roland’s quest has begun. After his conversation with the Man in Black, Roland faces the long road to the Dark Tower.  He’s starved, dehydrated… Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger of Gilead, is dying. The first door looms near and behind it, what possibilities may arise? Behind the first, the Prisoner. Behind the second, The Lady of Shadows.  Behind the third, Death (but not for you, gunslinger). Meet the rest of the cast. The Drawing of the Three is typical Stephen King style where you get a lot of exposition and character introductions before the story […]
