In Which I Do Not Read Books: Off-the-Grid Readathon V Review

Hey guys! Last weekend, I participated in the fifth Off-The-Grid Readathon!  If y’all’ve been around the block a while, you know that I’ve been participating in this one every time it comes up, usually with a lot of success (back in January, I got through six books!).  For me, this is a super fun one because there’s no goals and no requirements – really, the point of it is just to get off social media for a minute and read. And I am the worst when it comes to picking up my phone in the middle of a chapter, because I’m bored […]

Ghost Stories You Simply Must Read

Ghost Stories You Simply Must Read

Almost everyone likes a thrill every once and a while.  While I don’t love horror novels, I do like ghost stories!  And sometimes, they come unexpected.  I’ve read a few books in the last couple years that I thought were going to be about witches or mermaids, but ended up being ghost stories!  Color me thrilled. As Halloween is tomorrow, there’s still a little time for spooks and thrills!  If you’re keen for a ghost story, may I suggest nine of the ones I’ve read recently?  I enjoyed them all.    The Legend of Sleepy Hollow / Featuring the famous headless […]

My Best of the Best, Creme de la Creme Reads of 2017

My Best of the Best, Creme de la Creme Reads of 2017

Rather than just feature 2017 books, I’ve chosen to drive myself crazy and feature the reads that met and exceeded expectations this year.  The ones that wrapped me up in their worlds and wouldn’t let […]

August Wrap Up! // Featuring: Lakes, Cakes, AND DOC BROWN!

Welcome Ladies & Gents, to the August Wrap Up! August has been a busy month!  For me, there’s been vacations and birthdays and a trip to the dentist (BLECH), and a solar eclipse!  I am so so proud of myself because I have posted every day this month!  I know a lot of people are heading back to school within a week, if they haven’t already.  Can you believe summer’s almost over?  SHEESH.  I think that we all have had a crazy month, so let’s get down to it!  EXCITING THINGS ARE AFOOT, MY PHOENIX FRIENDS. No, not that kind […]

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

I wasn’t really sure what to think going into The Graveyard Book, and when it began with a baby sliding down the stairs in the dark, I was BORED.  Then I gave it another couple of chapters and there were Scarlett and the Sleer, and I was hooked!  I’m so glad I’ve finally come across another Neil Gaiman book that I really enjoy. Characters ❤︎ Bod is the most likable character I’ve seen in a while.  Not likable like Sorina in Daughter of the Burning City or Percy in The Lightning Thief… likable in that:  if you met him on the street, […]
